Having a doggie door installed in your home for your dog to make his way in
and out of as he pleases is something that will really benefit you and your dog.
Not only will your dog have the freedom of being able to go outside as they
please but it will save you the effort of having to open the door every time
they want to go out.
For example, some dogs will need to go out to relieve themselves late at night
beacause they are sick or they ate something they shouldn't have, and if you
have a doggie door, this will not happen to you. Then, it's a matter of deciding
how to get the doggie door installed. You can hire someone to come and install
the door for you, or you can save the money and install it yourself, since it's
not so difficult to do.
The Process
If you decide to do the installation yourself, here are a few tips that you can
use as a general guide. To get started you first want to determine the door
placement, where you are going to have the pet flap situated on the door of your
home. You will have to take into account the height of your dog.
You will want the doggie door to be in a place where it will be easy and
convenient for your dog to use it. Bigger dogs might require you to adjust the
height of the doggie door, and remember that your dog may still grow, depending
on its age. The size is very important, because a door too small may hurt your
dog, and one that's too big will make it heavy for the dog to use.
Remove the door from its hinges to make it easier to work on, and then you want
to use a ruler and pencil to draw out the outline of the pet door. You will find
doggy door fixings or sets that include everything you need for the
installation, including the door, hinges or fixtures, the screws and bolts you
need, and even a plan.
To install the pet door you just cut through the template you have drawn, attach
the dog flap and then you can put the door back up on its hinges and you are
finished
By installing a doggie door, getting up and opening the door for the dog will be a thing of the past. It's easy to install a doggy door if you buy one of those sets that are sold in hardware stores. Just follow the instructions that come with it and you should be fine.
