The Rottweiler
Welcome to the Rottweiler website where you will find everything
you want to know about this breed. We have compiled here all the
information that we thought you will ever need about this wonderful
breed of dog.
These are wonderful dogs that will stand between 22 and 27 inches
tall and Rottweilers usually have a short, very dense coat, which
is coarse to the touch. The combination of black and rust is very
distinctive, with the rust found on their chest, along the legs
and the face. They are very impressive to look at owning Mastiffs
for their origins.
The Background Of A Majestic Dog
History of this dog places it as early as the Roman Empire, when
it was used as a herd dog, trained and used to protect and cattle,
to pull the meat carts to the market and was counted on as a dependable
and highly capable animal. Rottweiler
types in those days had to be trained aggressively in order
to properly maneuver herds of cattle when necessary. Owing to
its protective and fearless nature, this dog was at the time entrusted
with the money of the traders when they returned from the markets.
The money was tied around the neck of the dog, which shows that
this breed was highly trusted with its ability to protect property.
There have been a lot of sinister stories told about
the Rottweilers and many people still think of them as killer-dogs.
It is true that some extreme incidents have happened where this
dog breed mauled or even killed people. However, this happens
only when the dog is not trained properly, or as a result of unscrupulous
Rottweiler breeders’ work. This dog can be extremely gentle
and obedient and it is also incredibly confident, highly intelligent
and alert. In fact many people would be surprised to find that
these fierce dogs can actually behave like clowns sometimes.
In order to have a well-behaved dog, a lot of care should be
taken to insure the Rottweiler is well socialized and well trained.
There are many things that are involved in Rottweiler
care and you have to make sure that Rottweiler
training is done with the least amount of rough handling as
possible. This dog also needs to respect its owner; hence it is
not advisable to have a Rottweiler if you are not physically capable
to control it. Female Rottweilers are a fraction easier to handle
than their male counterparts.
The Rottweiler needs a lot of exercise and is usually happier
outdoors than indoors. However, a Rottie can be as happy in an
apartment as anywhere else provided he is exercised well. They
are excellent at tracking, guarding, herding, and protecting property.
The Rottweiler
puppies are great looking but they are a handful and very
destructive since they always need to chew on something. When
they are young they are awfully violent and can bite pretty hard
but this can be controlled by constant checking. The best way
to control these dogs is with sharp voice commands but some will
however, need the rolled newspaper reinforcement (roll the newspaper
to make a harmless, yet very loud ‘stick’).
This will carry on till about 6 to 8 months of age, when they
shift their attention to furniture and anything it finds within
its reach, such as toys, books, combs and any other type of articles.
You can expect to have a totally trained Rottie only when he is
about 2 years old.
Health-wise, the Rottweiler is prone to hip dysplasia, eye problems
and cancer and if their diet is not proper, they are likely to
catch all the viruses around. They usually have a very weak immune
system and need a good and sustained vaccination schedule.
If you are thinking of buying a Rottweiler then the first place
you should look are Rottweiler
rescue centers. These places take in and care for abandoned
Rottweiler’s and are always looking for foster families to take
care of some of their dogs.
There is a lot that you will need to know about the Rottweiler
dog before you decide to take one into your midst. The next article
aims to educate you on the most important aspects that about The
Rottweiler.
