Things To Consider Before Buying A Rottweiler Puppy
If you still want to buy that lovely Rottweiler puppy there are
some things to check out before signing on the dotted line. The
following tips will assure you that you want the Rottweiler puppy
for all the right reasons and you are getting the right one for
you.
Meet the proposed Rottweiler puppy’s mother (if possible the
father as well) and when you do watch for her demeanor, her physical
qualities, her alertness and overall looks. She should be strong,
calm yet fearless, watchful and challenging with her eyes, and
totally relaxed with her body. Check the color combination on
her body with the AKC standards.
Check carefully all the certificates of the breeder and the female
as the dog should be certified by a nationally accredited American
Kennel Club and it should have at least a few winning certificates
of beauty, obedience and similar accolades for which a good Rottweiler
is famous. She should not be less than two years old when she
had her first litter of Rottweiler puppies and certified as not
suffering from hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and eye problems.
Ideally, the female Rottweiler should not be bred more than three
to four times in her life time and between each litter, the dog
should be allowed to recover fully before the next litter comes.
Over-breeding usually leads to serious health problems, genetic
defects and temperament problems.
Find out whether any of the parents, or their parents had hip
dysplasia. This is a hereditary disease, which is heart breaking
for both the owner and the dog. Take care that the legs look okay
and that they are firm and pointed straight out.
Be sure that the breeder is genuine and loves the animals they
are breeding. Familiarize yourself with the breeder, and check
out how they keep the animals, particularly checking for sanitation
and verify the animals look well adjusted and well fed; shy and
timid, thin and dirty, and so on. The way the mother, and the
other animals your breeder has, looks will be a good indicator
of the quality of the breeder.
Be careful when you choose your Rottweiler puppy, because if
you make a mistake it might cost you much more than money. The
grossly overrated horror stories about aggression by Rottweilers
start right from here. If the dog you choose is a mixed breed,
you might get a bad temperament dog and the consequences can be
far reaching. It is very important that you know how
to choose the right Rottweiler puppy.
