Here's a start :)

Best dry food for rottweiler puppy?

i have rottweiler puppy which is around 4 months old, for about 1 half months he had been eating Science Plan Puppy Large Breed Food, alot of people have told royal canine is better. Is this true and why. Should i stick to Hill's.My puppys coat is really shiny and is growing well.

Both Science Plan and Royal Canin are low quality dog foods, actually. They may be expensive, but if you look at the ingredients, they are far from impressive. Vets recommend them because they get kickbacks from the companies for doing so, plus vets actually get /very/ little training on pet nutrition during their schooling.

You want something with meat as the first ingredient and without by-products, dyes, synthetic preservatives, or corn (called maize in UK pet foods it seems) preferably. These look pretty good:

http://www.naturediet.net/products/index.html
http://www.naturesmenu.co.uk/products/
http://www.mpmproducts.co.uk
http://www.hilifepet.co.uk/

Edit: Please disregard the people telling you the food is a good one… especially the ones recommending an even /lower/ quality dog food (Purina… Iams… yuck!).

Edit x2: gsd, American Natural Premium concerns me. It makes claims of no corn and yet… read the ingredients list here: http://www.americannaturalpremium.com/Basic

Do you see 'whole ground corn'? I sure do. Yet, when it breaks down the ingredients underneath: http://www.americannaturalpremium.com/Basic

No mention of corn ingredient we saw previously. It even goes so far as to say at the bottom:

"We want to guarantee you that our food is made in Wisconsin and is free of any wheat, wheat gluten, corn, or corn gluten and we use the whole rice in our recipe, no parts or by-products are used and nothing is shipped in from other countries."

Lookin' a little shady here?

Edit x3: Kate is right, a puppy as big as a Rottie should have been on adult food from the start. Puppies this big should not be fed on puppy food at all. I'd switch him/her over to an adult formula.

weres the best rottweiler breeders in the uk?

already got a rottie but looking for another one anyone no of the best ones in the uk
thanks to everyone whos answered ,im wonting just for loving home not to breed ,i already have one thats 8yrs had since 8week old but cant find the breeder i bought him off i checked his papers and the woman moved they are so loving, not bothered how much it cost

Go onto champdogs and have a look.

I know lots of good breeders UK but it does depend on what you are after.

My girlie on the avatar is a Travillon girlie whose dad is a ch.

What are you wanting to do with it and where abouts are you, and what sort of look do you like.

Could join www.rottweilersonline.co.uk and look at pics. and I can also put you through to another uk site where a lot of my friends are.

Go along to the champ shows if possible. Windsor coming up, and look at the type of dogs you like.

If you go onto the link below for the Rottweiler Club, then you get a picture of a beautiful dog with children. That dog is a friend of mine's dog and she has the Jimeva kennels in Wales. Some beautiful dogs — but she has no pups at the moment. Her stock is also Travillon as my girl is.

German Rottweiler and American Rottweiler?

I have a puppy rottweiler and people keep asking me which type of rottweiler is it and i say …… Rottweiler and people say no German or American. Whats the DIFFERENCE???????????

As Alexis says there are just different standards and different lines.

They are still just rottweilers - not American or German.

The German lines are bred more for "working" and are quite high drive, used a lot in schutzhund and trials etc. Hard work for a pet owner.

The basic UK lines and I "think" the US have been bred more for a softer temperament compared to years ago. This doesn't mean the German lines are aggressive or anything, as with schutzhund their temperament has to be totally sound. But they are a lot of dog and a handful compared to the laid back type.

If he has come with a good pedigree then go onto something like www.rottweilersonline.com and ask on there if people can help you with the lines.

You would only know the difference if the dogs were at the "top of the tree" and you were experienced enough to know your rotties well.

Dartass — the European standard does vary a little. I know a guy who breeds German lines and he points this out to us frequently — lol.

What is the difference between allergic contact dermatitis and irritant contact dermatitis?

My dog Brandon, an American Staffordshire Terrier/Rottweiler Mix was diagnosed with allergic contact dermatitis and irritant contact dermatitis. What is the difference between these two diseases? The way they are described, they sound like the exact same disease. Could somebody tell me what the difference is?

'Irritant' indicates that the skin has been damaged by contact with something that directly harmed it, e.g. a chemical. 'Allergic' indicates that the skin was damaged due to an overreaction by the body's immune system, e.g. contact with grass or hay.
It is very difficult to tell the difference between the two by looking at them, a biopsy may tell more. Treatment is usually very similar.

Frankly, a skin condition that is first diagnosed as contact dermatitis often is eventually diagnosed as atopy, or an allergy that manifests itself in a place on the body that is NOT in contact with the allergen, ironically. Most commonly seen are food allergies or inhalant allergies (dust, pollen, etc). Some dogs have trouble with pollen both by inhaling it and with direct contact. Regardless, the trouble shows on their skin, whereas humans with 'hay fever' show respiratory signs. Is Brandon itchy? If not, it very well may be contact dermatitis; if he is, he may have allergies that will need further workup. I'm assuming the vet checked for mites as well. Best wishes to you and your poor pup!

Rottweiler or Doberman or American Bully?

Ok here's the deal i need a very strong dog that will keep strangers of my yard and will protect me and my family from harm.See in my neighbor hood theres alot of stealing and breaking into houses and i think that is soon gonna happen to me so were gonna get a strong dog that will alert us and is strong enough to take the stranger down.Which is Best?

My son has an American Bulldog who weighs 130 lbs and is the sweetest thing but will protect us and the house. Pit Bulls have a reputation of attacking anything and anyone, not all of them but it is known to have more problems with attacks than any other breed. A friend had a Rotweiler that was 11 yrs old and never had a problems then for some reason he bit a little girl on the arm, the dog had to be put down and lady had to pay a big fine. I would not train the dog to attack anyone, they will usually protect their owners without doing that, and you will save yourself a lawsuit

What is the difference between a German Rottweiler, and a American Rottweiler?

I got a Rottweiler puppy, and mom is Pure Rott, along with the father the puppy. Can you tell me what the difference is and if mine is a American, or German. If you can think of any names for her just put that into your answer. I do not want to name her Roxy, but last year, on the 15th of June, I lost my female Rottweiler of 18 years.

They're all just Rottweilers. When someone says German lines…..uh….they"re ALL GERMAN LINES. It's the same BS with the GSD. German or American lines??? Well…it's a German breed..thus GERMAN LINES. Once imported, Americans tend to breed 2 different ways…either for AKC conformation..or Bigger, darker, meaner, blah, blah, blah. In Germany, the dogs must possess "Working capabilities"…Except those specifically targetting the uneducated American buyer. Those guys are breeding 130, 150 or even 170 pound Rottweilers. Whereas no German in his right mind would own a pig like this, they know it is the first thing most Americans consider when buying one.

Bred in Germany FOR Germans = Correct size, muscular, high drives, courageous..ability to work. (and there are VERY FEW of those left).

Bred in Germany for Americans…or bred in Saigon for Americans = Oversized tub $hi-t, no drives, lazy, will not engage an opponent, head the size of 2 basketballs.

There ARE 4 or 5 people in the U.S. attempting to breed "REAL" "WORKING" Rottweilers. The results are not very promising so far. Puppies from them run about $3000. An adult from Germany that will actually fake its way through a protection routine…and not be so ugly it can't be bred…$50-$70K.
