Rottweiler Puppies
Once you decided which breeder is right for you, you will have entered into a life long relationship with both the Rottweiler puppy you are about to buy and the Rottweiler breeder you are buying it from.
Generally speaking, the Rottweiler puppy is a handful and then some and they will need your constant attention for at least the first two years of its life when his character will be formed. The Rottweiler is easy to train, though a bit slow. Slow, not because he cannot catch on to what you say, but rather because he wants to see with how much he can get away with before complying with what it is asked to do.
Once the Rottweiler pup understands who the boss is in the house, he will be like putty in your hands as along as you treat him right. You cannot bully a Rottweiler and you should know there are many behavioral problems that stem from bad training such as soft and indecisive handing, as well as from abuse and harsh behavior.
House Training Should Be First Lesson
The first thing that needs to be taught to the Rottweiler pup is house training and initially, you will find that the Rottweiler puppy needs to go every two to three hours. The best way to train them is to crate them and then as soon as he is out of the crate led to the littering place. Training a Rottweiler needs lots of patience and control. Ideally, by six months the pup will be totally house trained if handled well.
You should be aware that the Rottweiler puppy loves to use his mouth a lot. He will bite, and bite pretty hard, whatever he can get in his mouth including your feet, hands, furniture, and anything that has fallen on the floor. They will have to be admonished every time they are found biting things, and a loud howl from you or any humans will indicate they are biting you. If that does not work, a tap with the newspaper roll would be sufficient.
Since the puppies are a bit hard to restrain and it takes about two years to have them fully under your control so it is not advisable to have small children around them. The youngest child around a Rottweiler should be a minimum of seven or eight years old. Even so, it should never be given charge of the dog, since the dog will sense the child’s incapability of controlling it, and immediately throw tantrums and flaunt rules.
There is a lot to do to get the house and your hearts ready for these lovely animals and the next article will take you through the nitty-gritty of raising a Rottweiler puppy and the requirements that goes under Rottweiler puppy care.
