That is why dogs are used in police work. Of course many breeds are suitable for a guard / protection job. The question was which of those two breeds are more suitable, not which of all breeds or if a dog or a security system.
I breed American Bulldogs and I know much about Rotts too.
They were not bred to kill! Both are suitable for the jobs, Rotts can guard a larger property. About AB you have to know that bully type seem to be more inclined to personal protection and standard type is as good as a Rott or any other guard breed.
Really it is matter of personal preferences rather then comparing abilities.

both are good, but i have a german shepard. i live in the city and the people in the neighborhood are terrified of her. they dont come near the house. she is very protective in the house but outside she is fine.

It all depends where you live. Some places both dogs are banned. I will tell you that Rotts were bred to Guard. Bulldogs were bred to kill. Go for Rott. If you want something mean for guarding you might want to concider a Doberman.

Neither, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. My dogs let me know if something is going on but my 12-gauge shotgun guards the place. I stand a better chance in court than my dogs.

Why not a Chihuahua or Yorkie? They will bark to let you know if someone if coming. Yap Yap. (Not all small dogs are yappy, with correct training.)

Any dog will guard ur property, be it a chihuahua or rott. Dont have any experience in Am. Bulldog, but rottweilers r pretty good guard dogs, but they are strong dogs and can be stubborn n obstinate once the attack instinct kicks in, and u should be able to control him, and not the other way round!!

Bulldogs were not bred to kill they were bred as farm dogs….since then they have the best attitudes and are the perfect guard dogs. Rots are great too.
i have a rott weiler puppy now its very aggresive but no too much,before i had an american bulldog but we had to get rid of it because it was too much to handal
iv owned both breeds and i can honestly say they about as good as each other aslong as they tuned the same way both should provide a good guard service,its not cruel at all especialy if they are detering more then actualy coming to contact
