Both are favorites of mine.

In the 1980s it was the Rottweiler or Doberman. Currently it's the Pit Bull.

Um, this is an awful question.
I hope nobody gives you a serious answer.
I PERSONALLY prefer American Pit Bull Terriers because they're my breed of choice.

both are MY favorite dogs i nthe world
ive owned both breeds
and loved them more than any other breed

Pit bulls seem to be the target now, tho in the 90s it was German Shepherds and in the 80s it was rotties and dobermans. However, believe it or not, the Rottweiler is the breed with the strongest bite.

Well these days, in america, it's the pitbull with the worst reputation. But honestly, you should try and find out what breeds were used as wardogs. I think it was mastiffs but I'm not sure. There is something disturbing about large dogs bread to kill armored men…. I would suspect if those breeds were kept around and still used for that purpose they would be the most feared but alas they may have disappeared with their utility.

I LOVE pit bulls, but unfortunately they are probably known as the baddest dog on the planet because of bad owners, and bad media.
References :
nether….Doberman Pinscher. Putbulls are pussys. a Rottweiler is a decent dog tho..good size.
only reason pits are "thought" to be so "Bad ass" is cuz they have jaws that lock, and and are very common in the hood.
I used to have a Doberman Pinscher…he killed a pit, turned an all white one red with blood……the pit never even touched him. NOTE: i don't fight dogs, it was an accident. The pit came into my yard when my dog was in the carport. I tryed to stop it, but really didn't want to get bit. it was no contest tho!

Just for the record, Pits do not have locking jaws like some people have answered to your question. And neither of them are the baddest dog. People make them that way.

Right now the APBT is the favored one to fear thanks to fear mongering and sensationalism of media that are oftentimes going for the throat (a lot more than any dogs do.) There have been some good articles, too, though. I'd just like to see more.
When you talk about attacks, the biggest predator on the planet is PEOPLE. In fact, if you narrowed that stat down, you could say PARENTS are way more dangerous than all the dog breeds put together because there are more deaths by parent per year than all the death by dog stats PUT TOGETHER.
Also, many dogs that attack are mis-identified. Sometimes not even mixed with APBT.
Sad question.
Should all the good parents be sterilized to prevent any more harm to the planet?
I don't think so. But dogs shouldn't be picked on by breed or as a species, either.
And some additional facts:
Pit Bulls DO NOT lock their jaws.
Pit Bulls were bred to be very tolerant of people.
Pit Bulls CAN be animal aggressive without a lot of training and proper socialization. They aren't good candidates for dog parks after puppy hood. After all, there are lots of dogs in dog parks that don't have good interactions and if one attacks or bites an APBT, then the APBT will defend itself- probably to the demise of the other dog and then the APBT will be BLAMED for the incident.
They make good therapy, search and rescue and police dogs!
They are protective of children and would give their life for their family if there was a real threat.
They can be very tolerant and gentle with children.
Famous big-ole-bad-ole Pits:
Petey (a number of Petey's played the role for that matter), from the Little Rascals, Helen Keller's Guide Dog, Popsicle the police dog, Cheyenne and Dakota- Search and Rescue heroes.. to name a few

Put an American PIT BULL back in the White House!!!
I dread both. One dose of that determination, love, and willingness to please their owners can be fatal.

i love both breeds but in this day and age the pit has the worse reputation

I hope that the reason you are asking is not so you can find a dog that will be feared. Part of the problem is that people get these breeds and train them to be aggressive in order to say that their dog is the toughest or badest dog around. I have never owned a pit bull but I have owned several rottweilers and they have been loyal, loving and gentle. Any dog can be sweet and any dog can be aggressive, it is all in how they are raised. Breeds of dogs are singled out and feared because of ignorance.
