American Staffordshire Terrier, Doberman, Rottweiler, Boxer, or Bull Terrier?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

I’ve narrowed it down to these breeds, I plan on obedience/advanced obedience training it, I love playing fetch, I like going to the beach and on my boat(it’s a private beach- so my dog is allowed lol), yeah fetch is pretty much the biggest thing with me, with tennis balls, frisbee’s, etc.

I’ll describe my perfect dog if it will help:
Super loyal
Velcro dog
Loves fetch
Always ready to play
Likes to swim
Super affectionate(bugs you to pet it)
One man dog
Very obedient

You can recommend more if you want but if you do recommend one form the list too

Boxer, paws down!!!! I just buried my 11 yr, old “Boxer Son” last wed. He was all the above and then some. Very intelligent, in tune with your feelings, and a great guard dog. Really can’t say enough good characteristics of the breed.
Personality plus & also is very entertaining -
almost like a class clown. They will lean their body into you so that you’ll pet them. Never leaves your side. Also Spencer (my avatar)
was a gentle giant. Got along with all my other pets famously. A family of 3 cats, a Bichon &
a 4ft. iguana that rode on his back and sometimes even used him as a pillow.
No matter what kind of puppy you decide on i
wish you and your new addition many happy & healthy years together.

I have an American Staffie and an Amstaff/Mastiff mix. I LOVE the American Staffies. My mix will run for 6 miles non-stop and is super super affectionate. My pure-bred isn’t as active but definitely loves to play and is very loving. They are a fantastic breed and you won’t be disappointed.
That being said, Rottie’s are also wonderful.
I don’t dislike the other breeds, they just aren’t my favorites.
Make sure to check with your homeowner’s insurance since Amstaffs are restricted on almost all major insurances BUT if you throw a fit and promise to get the their Canine Good Citizen test then they will probably let you have one.

BULL TERRIER! All the way! I have one and she’s 4months old. They are very stubborn but very smart. You have to work with them to train them correctly. I can’t go anywhere without people coming up to me and telling me how beautiful of a dog i have. I live in Chicago and when I walk my Bullie downtown every girl and their mom comes up to me! lol SO, with that said, you should totally go for a Bull Terrier, but save up because their not cheap. I paid $1500, but I got a top breed and show case looking dog!

Boxers great family dogs but I don’t seem them as water dogs but I had 2 that did swim just couldn’t take to much heat. Dobermans fetch, running but don’t see as water dogs too often, mine did not like the water. Breeds mentioned were short hair dogs…look at an Italian Spinoni it is a german hunting dog. Active outside but couch potato inside loves the water.

From the list you have given, i would go with the American Stafford shire Terrier. From being around them i love their personalities and they are everything that you describe as your perfect dog. If your open minded, try a shelter in your area and play with the dogs to see if you connect with one that needs a good home. Good luck ! :)

I would recommend a Boxer, they are very, very playful and loving! They are always ready to get out and do something and are known for being so playful. They are very loyal, they may need a lot of socializing because they can be over protective of their owners. Make sure you read up on the breed you decide on. All of the dogs you listed are great and it sounds like you have a lot to give. There are also a lot of these dogs in the local pounds and shelters. Try going on http://www.petfinder.com and check out some of their available dogs!

Any of these dogs or mixes of them or others can suit your purpose if you learn how to properly evaluate and go to a knowledgeable, responsible breeder who can and will properly evaluate a dog/pup. Have you had any real experience with dogs in general or training? You do realize the drawbacks of any and all of these breeds, right?

I personally prefer Staffordshire Bull Terriers – they fit into every criteria you have listed.

They can be a bit stubborn though!
