My Dog a Rottweiler *American* She Is About and a Half Years Old and She Sheds Insanely?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

Every day she sheads enough hair to make 5 dogs the size of herself, when we pet her her hair seems very thick still. why do you think this is?

It’s the season. Dogs shed much much more this time of year.

The biggest thing you can do is brush, brush, brush. I use the furminator on all my heavy shedders and it works extremely well.

You can also add a fish oil supplement to her food as it promotes skin and coat health.

Switching her to a higher quality food may help as well. And by high quality, I mean Orijen, EVO, Taste of the WIld, etc. not Iams, Pedigree or any of that garbage.

It’s because it’s summer. All dogs shed their coats.

what does the fact that she’s ‘american’ have to do with anything? Rottweilers are ONE breed…there is NO american, asian, or african

all dogs shed…I dont know your dog … could be normal or it could be something with his health..like diet, that is affecting his coat

Sounds like she’s in need of some grooming. I recommend purchasing a good slicker brush. Splurge on one that has an "easy clean" function where the bristles retract to allow hair to fall out easily. I bought a large one, cost me a good 13 bucks, but it’s very effective at removing the undercoat that dogs shed during the summer. If you remove that yourself, there is less on your furnitures, and your dog will thank you for it since he’ll feel cooler.

If this is a recent thing and it’s summer where you live, it’s completely normal. If this is a year round occurrence, then there’s an issue and you need to see a vet.

It might have something to do with her diet.. a lot of pet foods contain by products and other artificial junk that is not entirely healthy for pets and may also cause fur problems. I would recommend switching to a holistic pet food brand if you haven’t already. Also, grooming your dog a few times a week helps too.

I’ve had Rotties all my life and they shed 24/7/365. But they’re such awesome dogs we all just live with it.

If you think you dog is shedding more than she should, and taking into account the time of year, then it can be a diet issue. Some dogs just shed more on a cheaper food, or if your dog has slight allergies these can also cause this.

Our first GSD shed madly, we thought it was just the breed as everyone says they are excessive, but when we got our second it was only half the amount. You know the dog and the amount of shedding, use your commonsense and make a decision whether to change your dogs diet.
