i feed her large breed puppy food made by eukanuba… the vet and the pet store said it was the best for my rott and that it’s good quality stuff… she is 4 1/2 months and weighs 40.5lbs.. she’s been doing good her coat is shiny, she doesn’t have flaky or itchy skin, and she isn’t overweight. but i check online and a lot of people say its not really good quality dog food. but my rott does good on it.. so do i change her food?
Most vets know nothing about dog food, that's why they recommend brands such as: IAMS, Eukanuba (made by the same company as crappy Iams), Purina, Science Diet, etc…
We feed our 2 yr. old Golden Retriever Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul and our vet had never even heard of it when we told him that's what we were feeding her (shows how much they really know)!
Like someone else already said, check on www.dogfoodanalysis.com and look at the foods that are rated 4, 5, and 6 stars…
Good luck!

why do you take the word of people on line and not the vet?
change her food if you want to but you have to ask yourself why

i agree with rabbit, go with the professionals advice, it makes no difference to him what kind of food your dog eats…..so why question his experience?

Some dogs do fine on cheap food and others have problems with the most expensive food out there.
Eukanuba is a decent food and readily available (important!).
If you dog is healthy and happy on it, I woudln’t bother messing with her system and trying other foods.
My son in law kept changing his lab’s diet because he’s heard all these different things from so many different people. Poor dog ended up with all sorts of digestive problems. She was fine when he just fed her a decent dry food before trying all these “fad” dog diets.

In New Zealand, most vets recommend Eukanuba and Hills Science Diet but I read the ingrediants list and they both have “by products” in them (ground up feet, feathers etc) which is crap they don’t need!! Vets recommend these 2 because my dog trainer said they get subsidised etc,no wonder.I guess there better then some, but not all.
I feed my dogs “Nutra Gold Holistic Dog Biscuits” which is great.I would eat everything they put in those biscuits! lol.”Royal Canin” is also good. Both are made in France so you should be able to get them whereever you are cos we can! If you do change over-i think you should…do it gradually to avoid an upset stomach and continue to feed him puppy kibble till hes at least 1 year old.
Hope i helped )

I agree. I breed Beagles and while I feed Purina, if your dog is thriving on the food, don’t mess with it. Mine thrive on the food I’m feeding them, my vet’s happy, I’m happy and I always have happy healthy puppies and adult dogs. Stick with what is working for you and your dog.

Here’s some guidelines in choosing quality dog food. Please click on, http://dogtime.com/food-nutrition.html

Make sure what you buy is high in protein, not grain-based, and that it’s AAFCO-tested. The AAFCO, the American Association of Feed Control Officials, is a watchdog group that sets food-testing and labeling standards.
** Give your dog healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables: apple slices, carrot sticks, orange segments, banana slices, and frozen vegetables are all canine favorites.
** It’s okay to give your dog a little bite of what you had for dinner, but only the bits you’d eat yourself–no fat or gristle, please!
** Some foods aren’t good for dogs and can cause serious health problems. These include chocolate, onions, raisins, and grapes.
** Feed your dog at the same time every day.

Eukanuba, Purina, anything you can buy in the grocery store is pure garbage … full of fillers and road kill. No cows milk, it causes diarrhea.
Go to the link below and figure out what is good food. It will tell you the ingredients and why they think the food is good or not. They also have ratings. Try to buy something with a high rating 5 or 6. Also go to Eukanuba and read what they have to say about that.

Pet stores don't care what you buy, just as long as you're buying it and just because a vet says it's good, doesn't mean it really is!
