What Is the Difference Between the German Rottweiler and the American Rottweiler?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

i didnt see the difference

Strictly speaking, neither exists – and not just because you failed to punctuate.
The breed is the Rottweiler, and had its origins in Rottweil, Germany (see http://maps.google.co.nz/maps/place?hl=en&source=hp&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Rottweil&fb=1&gl=nz&ftid=0x4790a466ee504b8f:0x41f6bb7a5df87b0&ei=FpF7S8qmBoSCsgOT3LWqCg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CAoQ8gEwAA. )

A pooch either fits the International Standard of the Rottweiler (click http://www.fci.be/nomenclature.aspx then click the EN to the right of the breed’s name to access its ENglish translation – don’t expect it to match what the AKC or CKC displays)
or its doesn’t.

If it does, it doesn’t matter where it was born, as a Rottie it is acceptable.
If it doesn’t, it doesn’t matter where it was born – as a Rottie it is crap.

Sadly, all the AKC and CKC bothers checking before registering a pooch are (1) Are both parents registered as ThatBreed? (2) Is the right fee enclosed? (3) Has anybody already registered the name applied for?
As a result, arrogant ignorant breeders there and arrogant ignorant judges there are free to ignore attitude, behaviour, character, coat, gait, proportions, size, weight and everything else related to "type" – and they DO!

• To ask about Rotties, join some of the YahooGroups dedicated to various aspects of living with them. Each group’s Home page tells you which aspects they like to discuss, and how active they are. Unlike YA, they are set up so that you can have an ongoing discussion with follow-up questions for clarification. Most allow you to include photos.

If it’s an actual German Rottie, as in the dog comes from Germany, then the answer is temperment. In Germany these dogs have to pass Schutzhund trials to be cleared for breeding and the temperment and soundness of body reflects that. They are active working dogs. THey can’t just be beautiful dogs, they also have to be very sound in order to complete both their championship AND the Schutzhund trials.
