Most reasons are they’d rather listen to how the media portrays them as, rather than the real truth. Mostly people don’t know the true temperament and history. Also, some may have had a bad experience with one, which I understand, but honestly there shouldn’t be a reason to deem the whole entire breed dangerous because of one dogs doing!

Say an aggressive chihuahua and an aggressive Rottweiler were running to attack you. Honestly, which one would you think would be easier to defend yourself against and come out with the least damage? It’s sad and wrong (I mean, just look at Petey from Little Rascals. Such a good dog!) but it’s instincts.

Some people just have a phobia, but a large percentage of people are scared of large dogs like Pit Bulls because of there looks, and the fact that they have incredible strength. People spread rumors about the breed, like they don’t feel pain, and they are ALWAYS aggressive, people don’t understand that the Pit bull, and all Mastiffs,Bullies and power breeds are the sweetest creatures with proper training, But your question can’t really get an answer, considering that the answer will be an opinion. Because all three have physical ability to tear limbs off and even kill. This isn’t to say that they necessarily will do either of the above, I know a very well trained and friendly pit bull, but I sure wouldn’t mess with him or his owner. The truth is if you poke any dog long enough they will fight back, these breeds actually could make you pay dearly for antagonizing them.
To those who don’t like this answer, Ceasar Milan can’t change the fact that these dogs have real power, whether you like it or not. It’s foolish to not respect the power they have. Perhaps a tiger can be shooshed too just because someone has confidence.
I’m waiting for the day when some "confident pack leader" tries to go be calm assertive with an alpha wolf thinking they can show how they’re not aggressive or dangerous at all.

the media is one big factor. but also the damage these dogs can do when bitten. like the dog whisperer said once. if you just let a dog go wild then its going to act wild. also you did not mention labs. labs have been known to bite and do alot of damage. but in my experience with animals. i have been bitten by 4 small dogs and never one you have mentioned. i think people with small dogs dont think they have to train their dogs not to bite cause its not really a big thing when they do, but then as soon as a big dog bites someone its all over the news or town and that dog is hauled off to doggie jail.

Because they have common sense. You should be afraid of a strange dog that’s large enough to KILL YOU…
If you see any large dog, I don’t care if it’s a big mutt or a Standard Poodle, Goldencrappapoo whatever. You should give it respect from a distance and get to where you’re going or call animal control. Not being fearful of a large predator that you don’t know from Adam is too big of a gamble to be intelligent.

The reason for this is because, The way media and the what society claims the dogs as, They claim that smaller ones are less aggressive which is not the case, Its basically the ignorance of media.
But really, no human should be terrified of any race of dogs, unless the owner themselves taught that animal to fight and do aggressive things.

God give me patience. It isn’t just the size (although common sense OUGHT to tell you, that the bigger the dog, the stronger the jaw strength & bite). It is also the media & how such dogs are portrayed when a large dog bites someone. Rarely do toy breed’s bites get news, because they often can be treated at home. Large breed bites are another matter, often requiring a visit to the ER & stitches.

It’s a stereotype. They are thickly built, packed with a lot of muscle and weight, look mean, bark and growl a lot, and have very big teeth.
What should freak people out, in my opinion, are Siberian Huskies. People aren’t really scared of them because they aren’t big and mean looking. People overlook one genetic fact- huskies are very closely related to wolves. They have close to the biting power of rottweilers, bulldogs and pit bulls, sharper, slimmer teeth, and have a shockingly powerful built. I’m an amazing track star around my school (sprint at 21 mph at top speed), and my Husky outran me with ease. Now, that’s not to say the other dogs might not, but she was PLAYING while doing it! She was running almost sideways for Christ’s sake lol. And I’ve seen how fast she is at reacting- without protection I would not fight a angry Husky, period.

Honestly people are racist against dog breeds! Pitbulls are my favourite kind. Now I am scared of aggressive dogs, but I really have a soft spot for them. They just like to play fight most of the time.
And people misjudge dogs because they think that those kind you mentioned are going to bite, yet I got bit by a GOLDEN ****ing RETRIEVER (and had to get stitches)! How loyal is that. It literally was a son of a b*tch.
The worst a pitbull has done is nibble on my ankles. At least it was cute and affectionate.

Btw, I’m with you on Siberean Huskies. A Huskie ripped open my rabbit’s cage (which has a very strong metal lock on it) and killed it while I was at school. >_> Used to be my favourite breed too. It just goes to show that they are strong and should be feared just as much if you are gonna be scared of a bulldog or rottweiler.

Because of everything we hear about them and because owners aren’t very responsible and conciderate with them eg. they are often allowed by many people to jump up and that is more scary than when a little terrier jumps up.
