This sound can’t be perceived by humans, but it can be perceived by dogs, who learn to stop barking so as to avoid the sound. Dog trainers and veterinarians see no problem with these collars, as they aren’t harmful. Once again, there is no pain involved – it’s just a bit annoying for the dog. When the electronic collar “hears” the dog bark, it gives the dog a mild electrical shock. The shock is not harmful or painful, imagine the static shock you get when you handle fabrics. Due to its name, people think that this type of collar is cruel and unethical and shouldn’t be used on animals. The main reason why these people consider this collar unethical is that it actually causes a physical stimulus that can be felt by the dog. Some people don’t like that. But does it work? Yes, it does; so condiser it an option if your dog tends to bark too much.
