Why Does Your Dog Bark? Do You Know?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

Barking is a means of communication for dogs so you should not chastise your dog all the time for barking. However, sometimes your dog barks endlessly and constantly, and without a seemingly good reason, in which case you really have a problem. Your neighbors would not take it kindly if your dog barks all night and they may let you know in no uncertain terms on how they feel about your dog’s barking.

While some people immediately rush to get an anti bark collar, this should not be your first reaction. Since your dog can’t speak, it uses barking to try to communicate with you that there is something going on that’s making him feel bad and desperately wants you to do something to make it go away. When does your dog bark? If the dog feels you have forgotten its lunch, barking is the only way to let you know you forgot about it.

Hungry dogs can make a lot of noise so make it a point to feed your dog on time. Another thing to consider is if the dog’s favorite toy is available to the animal. Interestingly enough, dogs know that they can’t reach a toy on the top of a shelf, but they know that you can and will bark at you until you give it to them.

In addition to physical needs, dog have feelings, so if you find that the dog is not sick and has been fed and given water, then your dog might be lonely, stressed, or plain bored. If you’re out all day long and your dog is left alone at home for hours, then barking becomes the only escape for its stress or boredom.

The longer the time is that a dog is left alone, the longer it will bark, and this can take hours. If your dog barks continuously after being left alone in the house for hours, do not get the anti-bark collar to silence your dog. Instead of using that anti-bark device, take your dog out for a walk. This will make your dog feel your company and not enclosed in a small space. Moreover, you get to spend time with your dog, and do a bit of excercise, which is always better than sitting to watch TV.

A dog’s barking can also be triggered by a specific circumstance. If you took all the steps above and still wonder “why does my dog bark?” then it might be excited about something else, like the sound your phone makes when it rings. If you find out exactly what excites your dog, you can take action, for example, setting your phone to silence or changing the ring to something more pleasant. This way, your dog won’t get all worked up and bark for several minutes.

Why does your dog bark? Understanding this is the first thing you should do before taking actions to reduce your dog’s barking. The sound of dog bark can be annoying, but it always has a cause, and if you attack it, you can reduce the problem.
