Is a Rottweiler the Proper Family Pet for Me?

Saturday, April 30th, 2011
Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

When choosing your pet dog, a person will need to properly study the advantages and disadvantages about the particular breed. I am going discuss the Rottweilers traits as well as point out the kind of person that is most effective to possess a Rottweiler. We will also analyze the needs of this particular breed of dog that may help you decide if a Rottweiler is the proper dog for you. Dog ownership should certainly under no circumstances be entered into without allowing it some considerable deliberation. Exceedingly large numbers of pet dogs end up being put down only because their keepers no longer wish to have these animals. They are often thrown away like garbage, dumped on the side of the road.

Rottweiler Features

Each Rottweiler requires working out, equally mental and physical working out. And if your family dwells in an apartment, you should certainly take your Rottweiler for a walk each and every day. Not necessarily just a walk to the curb, the walk will ideally be at least ten blocks or even more. In cases where you are located in a house with a fenced in back yard your Rottweiler nonetheless needs to go for a walk every single day. Permitting the dog out into the back yard is good, but it truly does not really offer the adequate exercise and really does not present the dog with an adequate amount of mental stimulation. In the instance that Rottweilers do not receive the recommended mental exercise they are likely to be terribly harmful to your home any time they are bored. Make sure you can supply a Rottweiler with the exercise they need.

Rottweilers must have instruction. They are enormous, strong dogs that can be very aggressive if they are not correctly educated not to mention socialized. Along with the appropriate training they are going to be dependable companion pets that definitely will protect you and your friends and family from burglars and are able to provide superb friendship. Rottweilers are normally great with little children in the home. Every single dog is distinct though. Their patience level may well vary from dog to dog. The proper training and socialization is going to be of assistance in this area.

The Type of Pet Owner a Rottweiler Should Have

Rottweilers will require a master that is going to be involved in their everyday lives. The master has got to be agreeable to devote time to training and socializing their dog, specifically if they get a male considering the fact that they are likely to be far more aggressive if not trained correctly. A Rottweiler would like to be part of your family. The majority of Rottweilers adore youngsters in the household, especially if they are brought up with little children. A Rottweiler pet owner must absolutely be comfortable and confident and make sure to demonstrate to their dog that they are undoubtedly the leader.

I have owned a number of Rottweilers and would never consider any other breed of dog. They are amazing pets that are a part of the family. They are faithful, loving as well as protective. Virtually all Rotties think they are lap dogs. Be sure you can furnish the Rottweiler the adequate training and socialization they absolutely need and you will have a lifelong partner that will never leave your side.

Are Bark Collars Good for Your Neighbor’s Dog?

Friday, April 29th, 2011

I wish I knew how to prevent my neighbor’s dog from barking when it was really loud. They were always leaving their screen door open when they were away. Both of the dogs barely took a minute to breathe since they were too busy barking almost 24/7. Even though I filled in many noise compaints, it did me no good. The two dogs annoyed everybody in the neighborhood, not only me. The noise wouldn’t let any of us have a good night’s sleep; they wouldn’t stop during the day either.

I know that barking is what dogs are supposed to do, whenever there is need. There are situations when barking is really necessary. A dog can be left outside by mistake, it can get lonely, it can be hurt or anxious at something, or it can simply feel frustrated when being locked up. Or it can bark when it finds something very intriguing. For some dogs, it is actually a learned behavior that is negatively reinforced by giving the dogs special attention and even treats to hopefully pacify and quiet the dogs down. In reality, it is showing the dogs that this is a good behavior and that if they want more attention, all they need to do is to continue barking more.

It’s not a great idea to leave your dog outside. It will make it bark even louder, plus that extreme temperatures can make it ill. Some dog owners place their dogs in crates while they’re gone but this is a bad idea, especially if they’re away for more than four hours at a time. There are also things to try such as a gate or even a large pen area where he can see out of and be able to create a den of his own in a room like the kitchen or laundry area. Do not forget that the dog also needs a bathroom. Buy it a litter tray, or use a pile of newspapers in the farthest corner of the room. A better alternative would be to make it a doggie door so it can go outside to do its business.

So let’s say you have done all of the above and perhaps even more and your dog insists on constantly barking or perhaps it is your neighbor’s dog that is doing this annoying habit-what then? Perhaps a bark collar might be the answer. If it’s the neighbor’s dog that’s so loud, and you don’t want to confront its owner face to face, write him a letter in which you explain the situation and ask him to take the appropriate measures. Your neighbor probably doesn’t even realise that his dog annoys everyone while he is gone. If he doesn’t pay attention to your letter, you may write him again or, better, confront him directly and suggest him to buy his dog a bark collar.

If dogs are loud all the time, then you should do something about it. If barking turns becomes a constant habit for your neighbor’s dog, suggest him to buy his dog a bark collar. If you want to read more about how you could solve the barking problems with a bark collar, click on this link.

How to Solve the Stressful Problem of Barking

Friday, April 29th, 2011

There’s nothing unusual if your dog barks. What’s not so normal is for your dog to bark all the time, without any apparent reason. If this is the case, you need to step up and make a change in your dog’s life in order to change its behavior. Many dog owners love to cuddle and spoil their pets and don’t realize that while some of this is absolutely fine, lavishing constant attention does not teach the dogs what to do when they are alone, begin to feel neglected and then act out. Next time when your dog barks, before getting annoyed at his behavior, your should remember that it is not his fault for being so spoiled.

Make sure your dog is ready to handle you being away for a couple of hours or even more. Leave him enough food and water, but don’t leave more food than he is supposed to eat, as he might overeat out of boredom or stress for being left alone. It’s very likely that the dog isn’t used to being left alone and this is why it gets so loud in your absence. With your indulging behavior, you helped your dog get used to being paid attention all the time; when he is deprived of the attention, he will get annoyed or depressed.

Be a good role model and realize that the actual words you use when talking with your dog mean absolutely squat to him! What does matter however is the way in which you say those words and how you say it via your body language. When you go overboard and go on and on about how everything is going to be just fine and you will be back very soon, you are actually just making things worse. Also, when you get back home and look extremely content, he will understand that you are happy to see him.

If you own a dog that misbehaves and barks more than it should, then you should probably consider purchasing one version of bark collars – a device invented especially for these types of dogs. There are many options of bark collars for energetic dogs, and you can choose the one that suits your pet best; the bark collar that uses citronella is one of the most popular anti-bark collars and it will give great results in no time. It is a safe, harmless spray that goes off in front of the dog’s nose. They produce a citrus smell that some people actually enjoy. dogs do not and quickly make the connection and bark less. There are more versions of dog collars and you can associate these devices with dog training; it isn’t necessary to give your dog away in order to have peace and quiet in your house.

Many times when a dog barks is nothing more than a natural reaction. You can choose from many models of bark collars that can train your dog into barking less. Click here to find out more on the types of bark collars available.

Should Bark Collars Be Forbidden?

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Bark collars were invented to resolve a rather exasperating problem of dogs that bark all the time. Living in a neighborhood where one or more dogs display this behavior can drive you crazy in a very short amount of time.

Among the three types of bark collar, the static device was the first one to be invented. As with many new technologies, there were some unforeseen complications. They often reacted to the barking of another dog, and could not differentiate between the types of barks, so would correct the dog when it was responding as any dog would; and did not necessarily have a safety cut-off in case the dog was hurt or panicked. Some dogs that were not supervised during their first days of wearing the collar ended up with physical or psychological trauma.

technology has advanced within past years, yet the idea that led to the invention of bark collars is the same.

These collars are not dangerous and they merely annoy the dog and make it bark less often. (This also works with other behaviors, so many collars have a manual remote that will allow you to help train the dog to stay off the furniture or not dig in the garden).

There are now three types of correction available: spray, sonic, and the already mentioned static. The bark collar in the first category use a strong scented citrus spray that annoys the animal and make it stop barking. This spray is not harmful for the dog. The sonic one uses high-pitched sounds only dogs can hear. Both these options are great for dogs that are sensitive to physical stimuli (the collar using citrus smell shouldn’t be used on scent hounds, because they sense of smell is extremely well developed).

People seem to like static collars best, due to their constant innovation. Static collars can be triggered by continuous barking for a certain period of time. The system does not react to other dogs’ barking. Due to its volume and frequency settings, the collar only reacts to continuous barking, and isn’t triggered by reactions of fear, pain or stress. These devices can be adjusted manually. In addition, they have an automatic shutdown period if the dog barks for a certain period without cease. The bark collar will also reset to a lower level if the dog is silent for a preset amount of time. This will make the dog understand the benefits of barking less.

Like all training aids, a bark collar works best when owner helps the dog understand what the desired behavior is. They shouldn’t be used as a single method of training. Praise and play for good behavior, exercise to help reduce restlessness and anxiety, and activities to keep the dog occupied when alone are all positive items that can help reduce the perceived need to bark for attention.

These devices are most recommended, over their alternatives – giving the dog away to a dog shelter or subjecting it to a stressful debarking surgery that comes with high risks.

Even though the first versions of bark collar weren’t perfect, they have been improved in time. Most types of dog collars can be adjusted manually or digitally. If you want to find out more about different types of bark collar, click here.

How to Train a Rottweiler Puppy

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Rottweilers have received a bad rap over the years, to the extent that some cities make it illegal to own this breed of dog. The truth is that Rottweilers are usually not the problem at all. Instead it is the owner who does not know how to exercise proper Rottweiler training and socialization. While this breed can have an instinct toward aggression in some circumstances, with proper training, a Rottweiler can make an excellent pet for many families today, including those with children. In addition to becoming a friendly and gentle pet, the Rottweiler can make a good watch dog because he will generally only bark for a reason, and his appearance can be intimidating to potential intruders.

If you have decided a Rottweiler is the right choice for your next family pet, you need to be prepared to begin Rottweiler training the second your puppy sets foot in your home. This breed is intelligent and eager to please, but can also be willful if you do not establish your dominance and house rules right from the beginning.

Avoiding Rottweiler problems in terms of behavior are often as easy as establishing yourself as the leader of his new pack. Since dogs are pack animals, they are accustomed to having a single dog as the pack leader. This animal decides where the pack will go and when the pack will eat. The pack leader is respected and obeyed throughout the pack without question. See the advantage of establishing yourself as your dog’s pack leader?

You can achieve this role by never allowing your dog to go through a doorway before you or allowing him to lead when you are out walking. Another good method for establishing dominance over your dog is to eat your own meal first before feeding your dog. You can also spend some of your playtime rolling your puppy over to his back, which is a submissive pose for dogs. Rub his belly and give him praise so that he learns to trust you as his new leader.

If you are shopping for a Rottweiler puppy, you may have heard plenty of horror stories about Rottweiler problems from owners who have not successfully trained their dogs. A well-behaved Rottweiler begins with a responsible owner who will take the time to establish himself as the leader of the pack while committing to regular training sessions with his dog. With diligence and persistence, your Rottweiler puppy will learn to respect your authority and obey your commands, and this will eliminate the large majority of Rottweiler problems that could occur.

You and your Rottweiler are going to have many years together, and you want them to be happy, productive ones. A good relationship with your Rottweiler will begin the day you bring your puppy home from the breeder and the house rules are set and enforced. Rottweilers are intelligent creatures that are eager to please their owners, especially when they know in no uncertain terms that the owner is the leader of the new pack. Train your puppy well, and the two of you are on the road to a wonderful relationship.

Sharon Davies hopes that by explaining some of the history behind the Rottweiler that more and more people will come to feel connected to the dog instead of fearing it. When thinking of getting a Rottweiler as a guard dog, remember that there is much more to them then just a scary looking dog. A lot of Rottweiler information can be found in different books or just by talking with your vet.

Bull Terrier, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Rottweiler Training Tricks

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

A few particular types of dogs are really a little bit more difficult than others in terms of dog obedience training. A number of of the more difficult breeds at the top of this list, include Bull Terriers, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Rottweilers. However with the proper training strategies, you’ll have your pup properly trained in virtually no time.

Training Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Rhodesian Ridgeback Training isn’t in fact as tough as training a lion, however these particular dogs were selectively bred at first to track lions and handle them until eventually hunters could shoot the lion at closer. Simply because they can be a strong and self-governing type of dog, they call for a tough, steady dog owner. Rhodesian Ridgebacks probably are not for the first time pet owner but with the right owner, coupled with adequate socialization and puppy obedience training, they can be a trustworthy pet.

Training Bull Terriers

Proper Bull Terrier Training is really important since this specific type of dog requires a large amount of order in its daily life. The bull terrier is a high-energy dog that can make a very good member of the family with the the right socializing, as well as puppy training. Having said that, they can be a little too rambunctious for homes which have small youngsters so this must be thought about for families considering the Bull Terrier.

Even though Bull Terriers were one time recognized as strong fighters, they are a drastically milder kind of dog today. Bull Terriers can work as a deterrent to robbers and other crooks based solely on their history, and they’ll frequently guard their owner if required. They can be taught to be defense canines but they are better matched as companion dogs.

Bull terriers tend to be courageous yet good natured dogs. They are often extremely trustworthy and become incredibly connected to their masters. Consequently, Bull Terrier Training should be strong and unfailing while tempered with affection and powerful leadership from you. Bull Terriers are very active and generally do far better in households where they are going to be given a substantial amount of attention, supervision and companionship. When you need to leave the Bull Terrier by itself for prolonged amounts of time daily, contemplate getting a friend or relative to check in on them as well as take them for a walk when you’re away. If left alone for lengthy intervals often, they can have stress and anxiety along with behaviour issues.

Training Rottweilers

Rottweiler Training isn’t as hard as countless people today assume that it is. A much-maligned breed, Rotts are definitely not the beast which is sometimes pictured in films. Rottweilers are a tender, loyal, and extremely intelligent kind of dog, and they will certainly be a highly valued member of your family. Bark Collars Do Not Harm Your Dog

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Not all dogs who bark need bark collars or other anti-barking solutions. Before rushing out to purchase an anti-barking item, you first need to find out why your dog is so loud. Dogs do not bark purposelessly. Sometimes their bark is actually justified; maybe they’ve been forgotten outside the fence or the apartment, maybe they are ill or have a wound, or they’re hungry, thirsty or simply got bored. Dog may bark simply because they are curious about what is happening on the other side of the fence.

Others bark out of habit or because their owners have encouraged their barking with treats and extra attention, instead of penalizing them for the useless noise. Owners think that cuddling the dog when it barks might quiet it down, but instead they only provoke it further.

When I first heard of a bark collar what came to mind was a slightly oversized regular dog collar that “zaps” your beloved canine with an uncomfortable pressure and I was not sure just how much pressure or pain was being inflicted. However, if you take some time to gather information on a bark collar, whatever model you want to choose, you will soon realise that it comes in many models, with various anti-barking mechanisms and none of them is likely to hurt your dog. When you compare the different bark collars keep in mind a few things. You might want to know that bark collars do not have to be worn all the time and they are a less painful alternative to, let’s say, a debarking surgery.

This kind of medical intervention is rather invasive and consists of cutting off a part of the dog’s larynx that is responsible for creating the barking sound. After the operation, your dog will barely be able to produce a vague barking, which will not be loud anymore. Think about this for a minute. The barking of a dog is not always useless. Sometimes dangerous situations might require your dog’s intervention. What good is a whispering type bark going to do to call for help or defend your dog at that point? A mere whispering bark does not have nearly the aggressiveness that is called for as a mean growl or loud incessant barks. Moreover, even though the dog undergoes the surgery, there is no guarantee that the barking won’t come back. Sometimes these surgeries do not have long-lastiing effects.

On the other hand, anti-bark collars come in more varieties and you can find one that fits your preferences. Among all types of bark collars, the one with citrus spray is the most recommended. It works because the dog really dislikes its smell and will tone down its barking when it smells the citrus. The hissing sound startles them and they are also not fond of the smell. Most dogs get the picture rather quickly and quit the annoying incessant barking. Studies have shown that these citrus collars are more effective than other anti-barking solutions. You decide which is better. A rough method such as the shock collar or just an annoying smell.

There are situations where dogs use their barking as a defensive strategy. If you are annoyed by your dog’s constant barking, there are plenty of bark collar varieties you can choose from. Please click this link for emore information on bark collar models.

How to Train Your Rottweiler

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

collar

The moment you bring a Rottweiler home you will be worrying about training the pup. As they are very ferocious canines you cannot leave them untrained. So if you want to train your Rottweiler then there are some things that you should know. Each and every dog is supposed to be trained or else the owner will have to suffer the consequences. You don’t have to hire a professional to do this for you, you can do it yourself. All you need is a little dedication and the pup will be trained soon. So the first thing you should know is that dogs cannot pay attention to anything for long. So you should keep your Rottweiler training sessions short. As you must be busy with your daily schedules short sessions will work fine for you. You should start from the easy stuff and then you can move on to the difficult ones. With this breed it is very important that they know who the master is.

You shouldn’t be harsh with your Rottweiler. All you need to do is be patient and they will learn slowly. Try not to raise your hand. If your pup does something wrong then the only thing you need to do is change the tone of your voice. They understand when the tone is changed so you won’t have to raise your hand. Hitting them will only make them scared and you won’t be able to train them further.

You should make it a point to make them understand who the master is. Once they know and understand that you are the leader the will involuntarily obey you. You should let the pup get accustomed to your presence and you should keep communicating with him or her. After sometime if you think that your canine still hasn’t learnt anything then you can think about hiring a professional trainer.

Why Using Bark Collars Is Against the Law in Some Australian States?

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

collar

All dogs bark. This is their way of communicating with the ones around. They bark from many reasons. Generally speaking, a dog barking isn’t a problem. Sometimes a dog barks too much. When this happens, it might affect anyone in the house, as well as the neighbors. An owner who has a dog who barks too much is going to look for solutions to that problem. Some dog owners believe that anti bark collars are the best solution.

Yet you cannot buy them in some Australian states. These states forbid the use of anti bark collars, as well as their import. The places that do ship them in get around this by either renaming the collars or disassembling them and shipping the pieces separately to be reassembled by the purchaser.

Anti-bark collars are forbidden in Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and South Australia, but they are allowed in Victoria and Nother Territory, but only as a last resort. Here, the vet should give you a written recommendation for the collars. The commerce with bark collars is free only in Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.

There are more types of collars; the static one uses a mild shock as method of training. The shock begins whenever the dog barks in a certain manner. Many of the bark collars have different levels. For example, the first time the dog barks he gets a small shock. If the dog starts barking again within a certain period, the shock is more intense. These collars have between 7 and 10 levels.

The countries that don’t allow the use of bark collars consider them cruel. Australia is not the only country in the world to restrict the use of bark collars. Those supporting bark collars believe they are not harmful for the dog. There is evidence that they are painful, including people using the bark collar on their own bodies. Those people wouldn’t try them again.

However, shock collars aren’t the only bark collars available. There are also citronella bark collars. They are based on the same idea. Instead of administering the shock when a dog barks, they simply eliminate a citrus smell. Dogs tend to avoid the smell and they stop barking. This method doesn’t hurt the dog at all.

The other option is training. You can fnd help with training in any pet center. Using the training along with the citronella collar is a better choice than using a painful bark collar to shock a dog.

The use of bark collars is strictly forbidden or restricted in some Australian states. Australians have to find a better and more humane choice to help their dogs not bark excessively.
