Understanding Electric Dog Training Collars

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

The invention and proliferation of electronic dog training collars resulted in a much easier, less time consuming dog training. Those pet owners who find it tough to impart behavioral training by other means can now enjoy the comforts of getting their dogs trained with ease in short timeframes, using electronic dog training collars.

Kinds

Depending on the type of correction that they offer, electric dog training collars can be separated in three different categories. The three types are electronic, sonic, and spray.

Electronic Dog Training Collars

The electric collars detect the vibrations caused by dogs’ barking and deliver a mild electrical shock, similar to the static shock that we feel when we handle fabrics. There are a few methods to this as some products require the owner to make the correction with the push of a button.

The advantage of this type of training collar is the effectiveness in making the pet understand his unacceptable behavior. It is also a very easy to use tool. While the collar is perfectly safe, some people still think that the use of electricity harms the dog.

Sound Collars

The second type of electronic dog training collar is the sonic collar. These sonic collars emit a high pitched sound that only dogs can detect and that makes them stop barking. Irrespective of whether it is to tranquilize him from barking or to contain him within preset boundaries, these sonic collars prove innovative possibilities in ways of imparting behavioral training to pets.

Spray Collars

This third type of collars offer a different approach. This collar literally sprays the dog’s muzzle with an annoying scent of citronella whenever the dog tries to bark while the collar is active. This collar is by far the most accepted one by people who think the other two are somewhat cruel, yet it requires some extra work, such as constantly refilling the canisters and taking them off at night and at times when the dog is playing and should be allowed to bark at ease.

There are three types of electronic dog training collars. Shock delivering collars, sonic collars, and spray collars. All of these electric dog training collars deliver good results, so it’s a matter of preference.
