Golden I find the opposite is true. I find Rottweilers mature mentally much quicker than GSDs. I've had Rottweilers capable of serious work at 12 and 14 months of age, where as a GSD in most cases wouldn't even have began defensive work.

These two breeds are both intelligent. And properly bred ones make good protection dogs. But they are completely different. The drives they work out of, the reasons they work, how they work, everything is different. They're so different the list of ways they are different is shorter than the list of ways they're the same. Rottweilers on average are hard dogs, very confident, controlling dogs who require SOLID handlers. GSD's are usually more forgiving of fools, but not all. Your best bet is to research on your own, and get out and meet a few dogs.

However, they can become over-protective of their family and territory, especially if not socialized correctly. An aloof personality makes them approachable, but not inclined to become immediate friends with strangers. German Shepherds are highly intelligent and obedient and some people think they require a "firm hand", but more recent research into training methods has shown they respond as well, if not better, to reward based training methods.

Rottweilers are not a good breed for a novice dog owner.

If rescue took in dogs and kept them permanently they would have to close their doors. There is a limit to how many dogs rescue can take. As the dogs are adopted out it makes room for rescue to take in more dogs in need.

Could you explain what mild aggression issues the dog has?
Has the dog had any obedience training so he knows his boundaries?
Is he an inside dog or does he live outside?

I do Rottweiler rescue but I don't live in USA so am not of much help to you.

They look like good breeders, but I liked the other one you posted before better. The contract this breeder offers is terrible.

Add- I do have to admit their dogs are gorgeous, great titles. I watched the first video and the dog is impressive.
