Is It Possible for a German Rottweiler to Exceed 200 Pounds?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

Maybe, but, I guarantee you the breeder of that dog would have to commit a kennel and show and work and financial suicide as no one would ever want to get near it.

If you over feed them, sure it’s possible to get over 200 lbs. It’s certainly not healthy though. A well bred, and fit Rott male should be around 110 lbs.

STAY AWAY from breeders advertising "oversized" or "giant" German Shepherds. This breed was intended to be MEDIUM-sized, athletic, and agile — its frame and joints were never designed to handle 120+ pounds.

Yes but it’ll be overweight and extremely unhealthy!

It shouldnt. This is either a misbred dog or very oversize.

I have an oversize rottweiler, part german, he has every problem under the sun.

Depending on his height to weight ratio. Some dogs, as in humans, attain genetic mutations that allow them to reach such extreme sizes. Check out the AKC website for more information on the average sizes for German Rottweilers, and compare and contrast to your dog. Also take him to the vet to make sure that his weight is not a side-effect of a pre-existing condition, such as under or over active glands, heart problems, metabolic issues, and the like.

The Rottweiler is a German Breed. So, ALL Rottweilers are German. Where he was bred makes no difference. A LARGE male should not exceed 110 pounds….BUT, That was when they were a "working" breed. Yeah, I know they still CALL them that. The reality is, if there is a working Rottweiler left on planet Earth…it’s hiding VERY WELL. Rumor has it there are a couple in Kentucky Training at B.E.’s club….but I am yet to see them. I’ve been on one too many "SNIPE" hunts in the last 20 years, so I won’t be rushing there anytime soon.

200 pounds is very possible. However, I would say he was bred in the US…..Or by a very sly German. How to rip off an American, while maintaining "Face" among your colleagues in Germany can be kinda tricky. With the GSD Show dogs….it’s become fashionable to see who can drain the most bucks out of the US.
Quote from 2 drunk German friends (in very broken English): "If it’s RED & BLACK….they (Americans) will come! HAHAHAHAHA"
