What Type of Dog Should I Get German Shepard or a Rottweiler?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

I like big dogs and have the time to train them so which one? And if its a rottweiler i am getting it from pro. trainer so as it results in not being aggressive.
I am willing to spend as much time grooming and i excersise at least half the day whether it be jogging or garden tending thank you all for your answers please tell your friends or leave more then one i need all the help i can get. :)

Not being aggressive has only a little to do with genetics and much more to do wiht environment and at 8 weeks even a pro trainer cannot predict with any accuracy which dogs may tend to be more aggressive and which ones won’t. You don’t say anything about your lifestyle beyond that you want a big dog. Rotties and shepherds have very different personalities, exercise needs, etc… do alittle mroe research on each breed and decide for yourself.

with either one you will get a great companion! i believe that german shepards are better as family pets, and rotweillers do good with one single owner

It depends.. I’m not too good with knowing about those particular dogs as I’ve only had poodles.
I’d go for a rottweiler. They may look "aggressive" but they are different and also a lot cuter. German Shepards, to me, are much cuter as a pup, but they have to have the right face and fur (: If you were to go with a German Shepard, go for a long haired one, I think they malt though.

I would follow Jen VT’s advice here.

Hana, funny how we see different things — I NEVER see an "aqgressive looking dog", but a big cuddly teddy bear. Not that I cuddle them like a teddy bear until I know them as I do respect their characters.

But I certainly don’t see "aggressive", but handsome, chunky monkeys.

If you do want to do jogging then it must be at least well over one yr old before a rottie should jog. They can get big joint/growing problems if you do so too early.

Get a German Shepherd. I used to have one, and i LOVED her. She was like a best friend :) Anyway, they are so gentle and loving and really smart. They get really close to their owner, and want to please. The are great with strangers-even kids. Also, they won’t hesitate to protect their owner if they sense they are in danger. So, I really recommend getting a german shepherd.

But, I also know that rottweilers are great dogs too, so you can’t go wrong with either one…
