Which K-9 Police Dog Is Best to Get, German Shepherd or Rottweiler?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

I’m doing a project for one of my classes, and I need to know what other think and why?

I would go with a German Shepherd. They are extremely intelligent. If you have a family then a German Shepherd would be a better choice as well because its good with kids.

German Shepherds are my favorite dogs so I might be a little biased, but I had a friend who owned a Rottweiler and that dog… well lets just say it wasn’t the brightest bulb.

i dont know what you mean by "best" they are all highly intellegent and very well trained when they make police dog. they also use alot of golden retrievers. they have years of training and then tests to actually be a police dog, my uncle is a cop and said there is a 5 year waiting list for polce trained dog that failed a test

    Rottie
    They’re gorgeous!
Short hair -so don’t have all the problems that are associated with long haired dogs.
    Intelligent and lovable
    Good watch dog (look scary)

well, id have to say the German shepherd because they’re faster and can jump a lot higher, which is really what counts when chasing down a criminal. Rottweilers are bigger, and have a more powerful bite, but because of their big size they aren’t able to run as fast, or jump as high. that and Rotties dont have as much stamina because it takes alot of energy to move such a large body over a long period of time.

I think both German Shepherd and Rotts are great intelligent dogs. They’re both easy to train and very loyal.

Also, this is a random suggestion but how about a pit bull. I feel bad for pit bulls because they are such intelligent loving dogs but the media makes them look bad. There are alot of pit bulls at animal shelters that need an owner (pit bulls are the #1 breed found in animal shelters because no one wants them). I have 4 pit bulls and they are great dogs when they have good owners. They run, hike, jog… basically does everything with me.
