.. dogs are usually very loyal to their owners, but i heard some people say that rottweilers follow the person that feeds them and can turn against their own owners, is that true? cuz i have a friend who wants to get one to guard his farm and he’s very good with dogs and animals in general, breeding them, training them ..etc but i wanna make sure that he’s gonna be okay and that his dog won’t turn on him all of a sudden.. Also, some people have been telling me that German Shepherds are better than rottweilers as guards, is that true?
thanks
rottweilers and shepherds r good companions. the bad side of them is that the rot. is very protective of its food and not house hold i have living and walking proof 36 stitches and 78 staples later at 4 yrs old. my BROTHER, shepherds are mostly alpha males or betas. think they own the house hold if you tell or treat them other wise they will give u a big f u and pee on the furniture. id get a pitbull, alphas and betas are not as common in the breeds. they are very content with children and adults and if trained as a puppy in a household the pitbull has natural responses to protect the household and family inside the home and they are very playful companions.

What you are asking is like asking if "Pit Bulls are baby killers" and that answer is no. Rotties are good dogs and so are German Shepherds.
You can’t judge a whole breed, you have to look at each individual dog, no two dogs regardless of breed have the same personality or temperment.
If a dog is well trained and well cared for there is no reason to think any dog of any breed will turn on you
As far as your friend getting a dog for protection, he doesn’t need a dog he needs a security system.
Dogs are companions but if you want my opinion a German Shepherd does make a better watch dog

A dog’s temperament is based upon genetics and how they are raised. If you get a dog from a reputable breeder and raise it correctly, the dog will not "turn against" it’s owner. Dogs that bite humans are unstable dogs and are a danger to themselves and everyone around them.
As for guarding purposes, what you need is a dog who will bark. Almost every dog will bark. Unless the dog is trained in protection, they will only bark and possibly bite out of fear. The deterrent for burglars is almost always the barking.
Good luck!

No dog of any breed is going to just "turn on their owner". Period. All bite cases can be narrowed down to a reason if you look hard enough – either the dog was ill or injured, the dog was provoked, the dog was scared, the dog was poorly socialized, the dog had issues no one bothered to acknowledge in the past, the human couldn’t read body language to determine when the dog had enough, etc.
Neither Rottweiler NOR German Shepherd is going to be a "good guard" in the sense that it’ll do it’s duty AND be a safe animal to have around UNLESS it’s beed bred and trained to do so. Period. Not all dogs, even of "guarding breeds", have the know how or genetics to know what to do, when to do it, and when to back off.
If your friend is "experienced" then he will have no problem with a Rottweiler or German Shepherd.

depends on how dogs are treated and trained.

They can be, if the person does not understand the breed. Though this can go for any dog, you have to do your research on any breed you plan on getting and realize if you can give the dog what it needs or not. With such strong breeds like a Rottie or GSD they need a strong owner.

I believe both Rottweiler and German Shepherd are great dogs. When a dog becomes unbalanced, it could be due to defective gene or because of the irresponsible owner that does not know how to provide the best for the dog. Education on how to take care of powerful breeds like German and Rottie is a must for all the powerful breeds owners.
By the way, I own a site that has a page about Rottweiler (Rottweiler Dog Breed, Puppy Training and Pictures). You may submit your dog photo and write a story at the bottom of the page. Then, I will publish your story there. I believe that other Rottweiler’s Owners love to hear from you.
Thanks.
