Do Rottweilers Take Well to New Owners?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

We may get a well-trained female of 1.5 years of age and we want to know if she will accept us.
She went through k9 training and knows German.
She seems very well rounded and likes kids, doesn't dig, etc.
Thank you!

Any dog can learn to bond with a new owner. Rottweilers will make you earn their respect though. Who are you getting the dog from? 'k9' training? you mean she was going to be used to for a police force or what?

I would be much more wary of who you are getting her from.

i love those dogs as long as you give it tender loving care and make sure you walk him her everyday when you do that you develop a special bond it may sound silly but it works with my lab

Go meet her a few times, and build a bond…Take her treats and fun toys every time you go to see her, and play with her. After about a week take her some where with you like a park (without original owners if possible) and see how she does.

I would do visits at least a month before trying to take her home, that way she will feel more comfortable

Rottweilers are wonderful dogs and seem to have enough love to spare. Take her to an obedience class yourself to be sure you know how to understand what she has been taught.

A well trained and socialized dog of any breed will adapt easily to new owners. The rott I had growing up came to us from her breeder and was 10 months old. The only real periods of adjustment was getting her over her fear/shyness towards me as at her previous owners' (no the breeder) the children in the neighborhood used to taunt and throw rocks at her. She did settle down quickly though once it sank in that I would not be doing any of those things.

Rottweilers are people pleasers. Give her alot of love and praise, and she'll be family in no time!

Every dog is different and can surprise you. But it sounds like a a good dog and if you give her love, all she can give back to you is love. She will take well to a new owner if you take care of her and give her love, the only two things a dog needs. And if you speak german… thats a plus for you.

Rotties may not be the perfect dog for novice owners but this, of course, varies with many other factors such as training and socialization.

This all depends on the dog's personality.
It seems like she will take well to you.
She is still young and appears well trained.
    Sounds like she should.

    Good luck [:

Rotties are awesome dogs, loving, loyal and protective. My suggestion would be to meet the dog, have one on one play time with her. Every dog has their own personality- you cant really tell if she will be the right one for you. You have to remember that they are powerful dogs, and very fearless. I've had my own since he was 10 weeks old and is the love of my life and my best friend. Take you time getting to know her- if she is the perfect match for you you'll know. Good luck!

She should learn to be a good part of your family if you make sure she knows you are her "pack leader". Rotties are strong willed and need exercise but they are loyal and loving pets if taken care of properly.
