Rottweilers or German Shepherd Dogs?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

I’m considering adopting either one of these types of dogs from a rescue specificall for these breeds. Which breed do you think is better? Pros and cons of both? Any info would be much appreciated.

I have a rottie that I adopted from a rescue after she got bigger than expected and someone else tried to make her mean. We got her in 2003 and she is the best friend I ever had. She is gorgeous, kind and gentle and has been the neighbor son’s play buddy from age 4. She is smart, nice to the cat, and well over 100lbs.
Rottie’s have an undercoat that means they shed a lot all year round, but their coats are short, so grooming is easy. I have also never had to lock the doors to my house, or worry about my daughter when I am not home. I think adopting Ranger was the best thing I’ve ever done and I would highly recommend Rotties for the right person.

German Sheperds are also beautiful, smart, loyal and all that. Their hair is longer so grooming is different, but any shepherd owner will tell you that you should get one of these.

All large dogs have potential for things like hip dysplasia, and they scare some people, and they don’t live as long as little dogs. There are no bad dogs, just wrong families. If you have the ability to provide either dog with a good balanced home (watch the Dog Whisperer!) you can’t possibly go wrong with either. Best of luck!

    my vote german shepard
This is because it is hard to get insurance or find a place to live if you have a rottweiler (they are aggressive dogs)

I have heard that a lot of Rotties have bad breeding due to people wanting aggressive guard dogs. If you can find a very reputable breeder they can be very lovable loyal pets. The same with German Shepherds.

I’ve owned both. In my opinion, Rotties are better by far. They are WAY easier to train. I currently own a GSD that we are having trouble training (and I’ve owned and trained 3 rotties and a pomeranian successfully).

I like both, but my vote is Rottweiler.

THEY ARE NOT AN AGGRESSIVE BREED UNLESS TRAINED TO BE AGGRESSIVE!

My parents have owned Rottweilers from the time I was born until a few months ago when our last one passed on from cancer. Wonderful dogs. Great with kids. Very gentle! I can’t say enough nice things about that breed.

I love my GSD but I don’t think I’d ever get another one. My dog is dumb as rocks, and stubborn. He’s been a huge challenge to train even basic commands. Too high energy. Boy – I thought my pom was gonna be hard to train… Nope.

Rotties for me. they are loving, intelligent, affection, protective dogs. Both these breeds have lots of health problems SO NO BACK YARD BREEDERS. also i’ve noticed that when rottweilers get older they tend to snap, i dont know why, disagree if you may.

Well I like rotties, but on either one try and get one that has been trained so you wont have trouble with it. Ive heard that some shepherds turn on their owners as they get older, but don’t know if its true? Many GSDogs have problems with their hips. good luck.
