Preparing for your Rottweiler Puppy
Once you are ready for getting a Rottweiler puppy, and have decided to buy one, you will need to make a few preparations for yourself, your family and your house to make it hospitable to the newcomer.
Welcoming Ways
1. Your availability- You will need to be there with the puppy for the better part of the day and the night as well (for at least 3 months) until the puppy becomes comfortable with his surroundings. This is one of the greatest preparations that you will have to do if you want a Rottweiler dog as a pet.
2. You should prepare everybody in the family for its arrival – and keep young kids out of its reach until they are about seven years old, or the dog is two years of age. A mix between too young children and a Rottweiler pup is a recipe for disaster.
3. If you have other animals in your house who are roaming freely, ensure that the breeder knows about it so it can give you a puppy with the right temperament. The Rottweilers are known to be very tolerant generally of all creatures on its territory and protect them fiercely against all danger. However, the young Rottweiler puppy is very mouthy and he will tend to chase and roughhouse the animals initially, unless he is disciplined and socialized carefully, and has the right temperament.
4. Your yard, if you have one will need to be fenced (if not already done) and you should have a warning sign about the dog on the gate and fence so people will be aware of its presence. The Rottweiler puppy does not take kindly to any type of strangers and though they do not bite without thorough provocation, it is a terrible experience to be cornered by a snarling Rottweiler who can look extremely fierce when attacking.
5. You should have sufficient chewy bones in the house, as well as time for playing and exercising your Rottweiler puppy as it will tend to bite everything it gets. They are simply unstoppable when they are 6-12 months and during that time you will have to keep them busy and well exercised.
Each of the above points is of paramount importance for your Rottweiler puppy. This is a very demanding dog that you are getting and if you are not a hundred percent for it, you shouldn’t get one until you are.
The point regarding young children and the puppy Rottweiler is very critical. Do not ignore it as it could end in terrible tragedies. Unwittingly, the Rottweiler may try to stop a romping among the children, or simply want to play with them and in the process injure them badly.
Once you are clear with the basics, you will need to proceed to creating a living space for your Rottweiler puppy. Are you aware what it takes to keep a Rottweiler puppy at home?
