Found a Legit Looking Rottweiler in Nj Site?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

http://www.newjerseyrottweilerbreeders.com/nj-puppies-for-sale/ looks reputable and like nice friendly healthy pups.. is this legit and would it be a smart choice to get a pup? and theyre expensive and chepaer nj breeders for rottys?

They have a lot of puppies available at one time, and they're only registered with the ACA. The lifetime guarantee looks good until you realise that if your puppy dies of a genetic disease (something they caused) within a year of your purchase, they send you another puppy. If it dies after that of a genetic disease they give you back less than half what you paid. For 1,300 that doesn't seem like a big deal.
They don't say who the sire and dam are, they don't seem to say if they check for hip dysplasia or anything. It seems like another puppy broker and they don't tell you who their breeders are or where they are- puppy brokers are sometimes used by disreputable puppy mills so that the buyers don't have to see their kennels, just those of the broker.

What kind of breeder sells to someone who will sell to a stranger? |If they really bred champion dogs they'd want to know where the pups were going, so they'd know they were in good homes. Most breeders of really good dogs will sort out possible homes for the dogs before the mating even takes place. These guys just give a dog to anyone who has money- how do they know yours is the right home for the dog, or that the buyer isn't a hoarder or someone who would mistreat it? "By reserving xxx now, you'll ensure that that one lucky home will be yours". That doesn't sound like they're at all concerned for the welfare of the dogs.

There seems to be no info about the background of the puppies, and all the testimonials are ordinary stuff along the lines of "we got a cute puppy, it went in the house once or twice". That kind of testimonial could be produced by anyone, as everyone loves cute puppies- it says nothing about the quality of the dogs.
There's no "we showed a dog we got here and it won best of breed" or "the dog you gave us is a really good therapy/obedience/agility/search and rescue dog".

A good breeder will have well-socialised dogs, their dogs will be involved in other activities (obedience etc), and they'll have as many questions for you as you will for them. A good sign is a breeder who won't give you a dog without a referral, one who tests for common health problems and asks you to tell them if your dog develops any problems later in life so they can take dogs out of their breeding line if they tend to produce less healthy dogs.

i would want to know OFA and CERF scores, working/showing titles from the parents, and health guarantees.

some of the best breeders i have known have the smallest, most incomplete websites, or none at all.
a truly great breeder doesn't have enough time to doink around setting up a fancy website, nor should they care to. they are more interested in meeting the prospective owners, rather than selling the pups online, and too busy showing and training to be typing in the office.

p.s. the health guarantee says "for life"…. i am willing to bet this place produces a LOT of pups so they can replace the ones that don't live up to the guarantee….

Yes this site seems legitimate to me.

Large Breeds such as the Rotty are sold at a very high price and most reputable breeders would sell them at the prices that are listed on the website…

The price is for shots, worming, heath certification and many other things.

Ridiculous dogs of no known backgrounds, no info on any sort of pedigree and asking too much money.
You can most likely get a dog out of working bloodlines from a REAL breeder here or even in Europe….keep checking!!
    Hope I helped.

    They are *very* expensive, IMO!

It's really hard to tell from this particular web site. The most important thing is, do they show their dogs, are they champions, do they do genetic health tests, what kind of conditions are they raised in. What do "Mom and Dad" look like, etc. Since this is a "network" of Rottweiler breeders (supposedly), I presume the individual breeders' conditions vary.

Sorry, but I tend to be leery of "puppy placement" sites like this. Most responsible breeders I know of show their adult dogs on their web sites and what their accomplishments are. To be fair, these look like nice puppies, but…

I'm also confused about the different prices for the different puppies. What is that based on? And there is nothing about any screening of potential buyers (maybe that comes after you've responded, I don't know). It sounds like "you pays your money, you takes your puppy". Responsible breeders (especially of breeds like Rottweilers!) screen their buyers carefully to make sure they're able to provide an acceptable home.

Wow. These people only guarantee for genetic faults that cause death for ONE year. After that, even with bad genes, they feel they are only 45% responsible? They only breed pet quality dogs? They breed Bulldogs as well, which they only offer a ONE year guarantee on as well?

    RUN!

    Dee Dawg is correct.

One of the top 20 Labrador breeders in this country has an extremely simple website. For the most part it contains the history of her dogs.

You want to know more, you call her. Sarah Wonnell screens potential buyers.

Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. Did you look closely at the guarantee?? It also talks about English Bull Dogs. It informs the prospective owner that the dogs may not be in NJ, that they come from other "reputable" breeders in other states and are shipped to their new home. Buyer has to pay for shipping etc.
Do what you want…but I wouldn't get a dog from them. It smells of puppy mill/back yard breeders to me.

    Personal opinion only:
I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole!
Simple reason, the only thing on the site is pups for sale.
The first thing I look for on a site is what else do the people do with their dogs besides breed them. If all they do is make puppies then I'm not interested regardless of how good their pups are.
This is what I expect to see on a quality breeders "puppy page" 99% of the time

Check out Kathy's Champions page if you would like to see what else she has done with her dogs.

They are not reputable. ACA is a BYB/puppy mill register. You can but a dog online no questions ask which a responsible breeder will not do. Their guarantee is a joke and they apparently consider certain genetic defects "normal" and will not cover them. "Champion lines" is generally BYB term for there was one champion 5 generatons back. There is no heath testing information, no pedigree information, no information on confirmation or working titles, not even pictures of the adult dogs just information on how much they weigh. I'm not a Rottie person but the puppies just don't appear to be of good quality to me. Contact the person listed under Rottweilers here http://www.akc.org/breederinfo/breeder_search.cfm for a list of responsible breeders.
