What Is the Best Formula for a Rottweiler Puppy?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

taking in a 5 week old rott puppy that the mother refuses to nurse. I want to give this puppy the best start I can so need to know what formula to get for her.

Most dams start the weaning process by the time the puppies are 4 weeks old, so this puppy doesn’t need formula. (What he does need is to be with his litter mates, but too late for that!)

Select a top quality brand of dry puppy food, moisten it with warm water so its easier for him to eat and feed him 4 times a day for now. Within about a month (he’ll let you know), you can cut the meals down to 3 a day. Most puppies cut out the middle meal by the time they’re 4 months old or so, then he’ll get fed twice a day for the rest of his life.

You also need to provide him with a supply fresh water.

about 5 weeks is when they are weaned.

The mother refuses to nurse because she’s weaning. Mama dogs tend to wean at about a month old. The puppy is to stay with the mama until 8 weeks of age. The puppy will start drinking water and eating food at this time. Look into raw feeding. Many breeders never bother with dog food, but put the puppies straight on a raw meat diet.

Never buy from a breeder that isn’t smart enough to know that puppies are weaned at a month old.

Even tho the bitch refuses to nurse, it’s still up to the breeder to keep the pups until they are no younger than 6 weeks minimum. Only an unreputable backyard greeder would pawn off a 5 week old pup.

OK, allow your vet to recommend a good formula for your puppy, as you should take it for its first medical exam as soon as you get it.

An ethical breeder will keep the puppy until 8 weeks of age, and will know how to feed the pup till this age! Proper socialization with litter mates at this young age sets the stage for future behavior!

If you wanna give a Rottweiler puppy the best, you should start training it right now. For Rottweilers, training is NOT an option.
