I got a rottweiler puppy for my birthday she is 8 weeks old obviously shes going to be inside for a bit, but when can i leave her outside we live in a nice neighborhood with our privacy and everything. So when is it a good age to leave her outside over night
As someone else said, dogs are pack animals and should be living INSIDE with you and your family. Take her out to relieve herself, play outside with her, take her for walks outside and training, but let her live inside WITH you at all times.

I personally don’t believe in having an outdoor dog. Please don’t leave her out all night. I agree that some dogs love it outside and don’t want to come in but I don’t understand why you get a dog if its going to live outside. She can protect you better when she’s indoors if thats your reasoning. I don’t want to force my opinion on you so please don’t take this the wrong way. I just don’t understand.

Dogs are pack animals & need to be with their pack (YOU) Depending on the climate, weather, shelter, food & water availability, dogs should only be outside for 4 hrs. at a time WITH supervision.

I would at least wait until she is a couple months. And make sure there is shade for when it is hot and a dog house for when it is cold.

I think if you leave a puppy that young alone all night it will be traumatizing for her. She is a puppy and her mentality is that she needs to be close to others for comfort. I think you may definitely have scheduled times where she may enjoy herself outside, but only for a little while and under supervision. She needs to learn that being outside isnt a punishment, and if you leave her outside alone all night at this age she will view being outside as such. As she gets older you may leave her outside alone for longer periods until she is completely comfortable with it. My opinion though? When you go to bed, the dog should be in the house with you.

Only leave your dog outside when she wants to go to the bathroom and play. Don’t leave her out overnight, it doesn’t matter what your neighborhood looks like. She could eat a frog or get bit by a raccoon looking for food. It’s better to keep her with you when you are home and let her out for an hour or two every day.

You CAN leave a dog outside at night and they WON"T die or be tramatized forever. They ARE pack animals and the more your dog is with you, the stronger your bond will be, but if you have to put the dog out at night at least give it a comfortable place to sleep.
I kept my rott with me inside until I had to move to a place where the dogs weren’t allowed indoors. They have other dogs, so he is not alone, but I was still sad about it because I was used to him sleeping in the same room as me.
I took him home at 8 weeks, and I started keeping him outside at 8 months old. He has a kennel with a cover, and a dog house with shavings to keep him warm. I only put him in the kennel at night, which he is used to since I used to crate him at night when he was indoors until he was house trained. Its a large kennel area and he has room to move around. He doesn’t mind going in and I never have to force him to. He LOVES his dog house! And he is always excited to see me in the morning.
It is better if you can keep the dog inside with you, but if you can’t just make sure her "bedroom" is comfortable and keeps her safe from the elements. Also make sure you do not forget about her out there and spend plenty of time playing with her and excersizing her.
