Feeding a Rottweiler Puppy?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

What would be the best food to feed a (rescue) rottie pup – Hes about 9 weeks old, and very skinny – The vet wont suggest anything other than the rubbish he gets commission for, as hes fed it to his dogs with no problems – But i am not feeding anything with that much grain etc in!

My other dogs were all fed on James Wellbeloved at this age, would this be appropriate for a Rottweiler too? (Most of my other rescues have been smaller breeds!)

Thanks.

i have fed all my rotties(three)over twenty years on raw tripe with vitamins added myself i have never had any trouble with them just make sure you worm regularly they love it and i am yet to come ac cross anything better for rapid weight gain.you can get it on line for as little as 14p per pound if you buy in bulk two pounds in weight a day with mixer works out to less than £4.00 a week

I feed my puppy poop and dead birds and sticks, but that's just me. Dead birds are highly nutritious because they are meat, and you don't have to pay for them. My dog eats his poop because it helps him build an immunity to bacteria, and he eats stick, well, because he likes to! lol. really, you should feed him those things. sometimes i feed him hot dogs or bologna if he's good, but normally those things.

Our Rottie got really sick and lost weight. We helped her gain weight quickly by mixing kibbles and bits with can food and giving it to her 2 a day. She seemed to pack on the weight pretty quick. Hope this helps!

I personally think the tinned meat is the best for them.

We rescued a Rotty cross a while back, fed him on tinned meat and he was fine. These days he only gets biscuits for his breakfast due to his amazing ability to put on weight quickly.

But yeah, meat seems to work fine.

rottie pups will eat just about anything. Just make sure your food has vitamins and minerals. When I had my rotts i just fed them whatever cheap name brand I could find and they grew up big and strong. Hope this helps.

I am not familiar with that brand. I have always fed mine Innova. And, I used the Innova Adult, from puppy on up. However, since your guy is on the skinny side, I would suggest using the puppy formula, and maybe supplementing it with a little canned food, just to get some weight on it. Also, feed it three times a day, not two.
My adults are now on Health Wise brand dog food, same good quality as the Innova. I really recommend either one.

Best of luck with your new little guy.

I feed raw meat and bones as my male dog has digestive problems and this has cured him. I can feed a 4 year old male and a 10 month old Pup, both Rottweilers, for £46 a fortnight.

We have a rottie x gsd pup and we started her off on James Wellbeloved puppy complete but we found that she was often sick with it. We changed her onto Wainrights Large Breed Puppy 0 – 18 months (this is pets at home's own equivalent to the JWB) and she has been great ever since. he best thing is if your pup doesn't like this or respond well to it, then you can take it back and get a full refund. We pay £29.99 for a 15kg sack and feed her 3 x daily. Your pup will require 4 meals a day for a while yet so JWB may just work out pretty expensive.

Before buying any food look for good ingredients and make sure they don't have any by-products, soya and wheat. read the label carefully and choose. Eukanuba, Hill's Nature's Best, James Wellbeloved, Nutro are good. Pls dont feed him any human food, but u can give him raw veg and fruits just for treats. Any good quality puppy food will be suitable for him but dont try to over feed him just to beef him up. Give him what is required at his age, he will gradually gain weight. Give him lots of love and care .. in no time he will be fit and healthy. good luck!

You get a large puppy breed version of that, dont you? That would be fine just so long as it can sustain his huge size. Gorgeous dogs rotti's. :D

If not check out other large puppy breed brands.
