I own a two year old rescue rottweiler and when he see’s a dog, he stalks it and there is no way of getting him back. He is very calm and soppy, he wouldn’t hurt a fly. But we cant get him back when we call him.
Use the praise or affection reward instead.

How Do I Teach a Non-Food Orientated Dog Recall?
Sunday, March 7th, 2010Rottweiler Rescue Needed?
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010I have a 21 month old Male Rottie, who has recently displayed some mild aggresion issues. We have a small child in the house and don’t want to risk any injury. If we can’t find him a new home I’d like to find a Rescue somewhere that will take him, but I can’t find anything that says they rescue, all I can find are rescues that adopt out. Any ideas if there are any around Georgia?
That’s what rescue does. Rescue assesses the dog, teaches it some manners and basic obedience and when the dog is ready it’s adopted out to a suitable new owner.
If rescue took in dogs and kept them permanently they would have to close their doors. There is a limit to how many dogs rescue can take. As the dogs are adopted out it makes room for rescue to take in more dogs in need.
Could you explain what mild aggression issues the dog has?
Has the dog had any obedience training so he knows his boundaries?
Is he an inside dog or does he live outside?
I do Rottweiler rescue but I don’t live in USA so am not of much help to you.
Fostering Dobermans and Rottweiler?
Saturday, February 20th, 2010I have a doberman/rott pup. And we are adopting a purebred doberman this week. Is it possible to foster just doberman or rottweiler dogs? Or do you have to foster whatever the shelter or rescue gives you? We want to start fostering soon, but only want to foster these two breeds.
The shelters are usually good about that. You can also contact your local Rott and doberman rescues. I’m sure they would be ecstatic to get some foster homes.
Rescuing a Rottweiler From the Pound, Do You Like the Name Vanessa?
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010Me and my fiance have to rescue 2 dogs from the pound very soon for the college we will be attending (we are becoming professional dog trainers and you have to have your own young dog) and I’m getting a rottweiler. They’ve always been my favorite breed

He needs obedience training. Here is a link to find a reputable trainer in your area.
What Are the Features That Differentiate Between a Rottweiler and a Doberman?
Wednesday, December 30th, 2009I rescued a young, female dog yesterday. At first, I thought she was a Rottweiler X; but the more I look at her, the more I think she might be a Doberman (tail not docked and ears not cropped).
I need to make a few calls, and I want to make sure I report the correct breed.
dobermans have a finer build, and a longer nose..
rotts have a stockier build and a shorter nose
Rottweiler Rescue- Star Please!?
Thursday, November 19th, 2009Does anyone have any connections with a Rottie rescue group in New England (US)? Looking for connections for potential long term (1-2 months) foster for emergency housing situation. Email for more details or post an answer!
Thanks everyone!
I don’t know of any Rottie rescues in New England but have fostered with an organization called MCM Rottweiler Rescue based in Long Island, NY. I don’t know if they could take on another Rottie because they currently only have 3 foster homes right now, all of which are full. But they might be able to help you find someone who can take the dog in.

Can Anyone Help Me With My Rottweiler?
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009I had a rott when I was about 15. He was the love of my life. The best dog I ever owned. I lost him to parvo at only 3 years old. I never wanted another rottweiler again!!. I rescued a bullmastiff about 5 years ago and he has been great. He is very calm. No accidents in the house, FANTASTIC with my daughter..Just a great dog all around. I decided I wanted a puppy for my birthday this year and my fiance talked me into a rottweiler puppy. He was soooooo cute. I met the parents, everything seemed great. It has been a very long time sinceI have owned a new puppy. Most of our dogs have been rescues. I assumed there would be a lot of work involved….
He is now 9 months old and It hurts me to say but I almost HATE this dog. I have had years of experience training dogs, showing dogs, even rehabbing fighting dogs. I don’t know what to do with him. He is 95 pounds and does not listen to anyone!!!! He is very sweet and a total attention whore..its very annoying but that part doesn’t really bother me. He cannot leave our mastiff alone. He just picks at him and bites him. He is always starting a fight. As you can imagine, it is a huge problem having 200+ pounds of dogs wrestling all through my house on a 24 hour basis. Because he refuses to leave the other dog alone, he has to spend way more time in his crate which I feel is not fair to him. I walk them both for at least an hour a day. The rottweiler is like a bull in a china shop even after a long walk. He tries to eat our cat, He alays knocks my daughter down. He will just poop in the house with no warning. He is AWFUL!!! I have never given up on a dog, but I feel like I am getting close with this one. Maybe its just the stress of a 2 year old and a puppy.. I dunno.. There are days when I love him to pieces and then most other days when I want to drop him off at the pound. Can anyone offer suggestions. I want to love him. I paid a fortune for him. I know he could be a good dog. I just don’t know what to do… Please help!!!
Walks never really use up our Rottie’s energy–and it sounds like yours also has a good bit of energy. The doggie daycare advice is great and some places around here do a half day (six hours) for $10! I would make sure it has an outside space with lots of room to roam and chase. There is a remarkable difference in our dog when he goes to the doggie daycare twice a week and walks on the other days. That said, make sure all the vaccinations are up to date because your dog is still young and, well, those doggie daycares are just like kid daycares! The good news is that this age is the hardest—our Rottie really calmed down at about a year and half old–so hang in there and find yourself a good doggie daycare. Our 112 lb Rottie just turned two and we have a one year old and other baby on the way–so I understand the stress! Good luck!
What Would Be the Best First Dog: English Mastiff, Bull Mastiff, Rottweiler, Boxer?
Friday, October 2nd, 2009I definatly like these dogs, and once I settle down with my own house and gf, I’d like to either take a rescue dog in, or get a puppy.
For a first dog, I would recommend a boxer. They do need a lot of exercise, but are easy to train, and love to please. You can usually find some in rescues, too.
