Rottweiler or Rottweiler Mix? What Do You Think?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

Hello!

I adopted my lovely, handsome little boy several years ago. He was saved from euthanasia by a rescue that tries to find homes for "difficult dogs". He has always been sweet, affectionate, happy, even tempered and good with dogs/people/children/rabbits(he has a sister ..a bunny sister!) but needed some 'refinement'. We were BLESSED to find a phenomenal trainer, who taught us behavior modification techniques, obedience and taught me how to teach him. He is wonderful now, and we are practicing for his CGC (Canine Good Citizens) test

I was told that he was a rottweiler; but, I am 100% certain that he is some sort-of mix. So, I just wanted to ask my Yahoo Answers friends for their opinions on what he may actually be.

Here are some links to Pictures (he is 7yrs old, approx 100lbs):

(I apologize for the numerous individual links… but I think you can get a good idea of what he looks like by checking out 2 or 3 links)

Thank!
I should mention that he has a serious overbite, so that definitely makes his head/mouth shape odder … (ie. he can still lick you, while muzzled… lol!)

No Way!!! No WAY!! The last pic was Beautiful!! any way i think its Rottweiler

His ears look a little big to be all rotti, and his muzzle is much more pointed than that of a pure rotti, to me he looks like a rotti cros lab :)

Aw, he looks very youthful. I would simply consider him a really poorly bred Rottie, but I'm definitely not an expert. Considering how lithe and long he is, perhaps he's part Rottweiler, part Doberman. He seems a bit Lab-ish to me, though.

Could be either a shepherd or lab mix with the rottie. His nose is a little long for a pure rottie.

Looks purebred to me. If he is a mix, then the rottweiler is VERY dominant. No way is he close to show quality, but I don't really see anything that makes me think he has anything else in him. His head isn't as big and round as some rotties.

But I've seen plenty of purebred rotties with longer muzzles. Another thing that makes me think purebred is his tail. It is docked. That takes money and a vet visit, and needs to be done in the first couple days of life. People don't usually put that time and effort in to a mutt. I said USUALLY, because sometimes they do. But it is usually only purebreds that are cropped and docked

I looked at all the pics. He for sure has Rottie in him, but to me his nose looks a little long to be pure bred. I could be wrong, but He could be mixed with Lab, or Dobie. He has the same long nose that my dog Ace has, and he is a Lab/Dobie mix. As I said, I could be wrong, its just a guess. He is a great looking dog though. Congrats, and good for you saving his life! Love the pic that went to help shelter dogs find homes.

He looks like he has a lot of Rott in him, over 50%. Maybe one of his parents was a pure Rott and the other a Rott mix. If you have the cash, there are DNA tests for dogs to determine the mix.

    You have a beautiful dog!

Hmmm.. looks like to me that your dog is a mix indeed. The rottweiler blood is obviously the dominant one. The head looks more pointed than normal rotties. The snout is also more pointed than usual. Looks to me he has some kind of Labrador Retriever blood in him.

Living proof that the bad isn't always because of the breed!
    Congrats!

I think your dog is pure Rotti, while the head is narrow and so is the muzzle, this is caused by inbreeding or line-breeding, they bred their line down too much..I have seen Rotti's with heads like this.

His body shape and muscular shape is Rotti…….he has a nice square frame and holds it well….he just does not have the blunt head and muzzle to go with his body.

You have a nice dog there……

He is a beautiful looking dog. I would say he is purebred rottweiler because everything looks like a rottweiler but the face is just a little longer. And someone else mentioned about the docked tail..I also don't think someone would have gotten that done if he was a mix. But if he is a mix I would say maybe doberman from the longer face possibly. Well whatever he is he is such a nice looking dog…your lucky to have him.!!! :)

He looks all or mostly rottie to me. His nose did look a little long in one of the pics kind of like a dobie. I personally don't see lab. But I would say he's a good 75% rottie, maybe a little dobie in there. But I could be wrong.

He is Rottweiler. His snout is pretty long, but he looks like a poor pet quality Rott.
I don't wish to offend. He has a beautiful shiny coat and a good weight. Thanks for adopting
