How Can I Introduce My Rottweiler to My Cat?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

I recently acquired a 2 year old 100 lb male rottweiler. How can I introduce him to my cat? So far we’ve been hiding my cat in a room. Please help.
thanks to everyone that answered, but i live in a two bedroom apartment and things are tight. and we had to take the dog because of something that happened so it wasnt planned.

Don’t keep your CAT in the room. Put your rottweiler in the room so that he can get used to the place cuz ur dog is probably nervous and doesn’t want to be in the big house yet. Let the cat and the dog get to know each other slowly the cat will go over to the room with your rottweiler and start smelling under the door and your dog will probably do the same. after about a week u can take ur doggie out and introduce him to ur house and your cat more

Start off by putting either the cat or the dog in a cage, then take them both out on a leash and let them friend on there own terms don’t try to force them to be friends or they’ll be some fur flying but make sure that if any of them get upset try again later!

The best thing to do is put ketchup on the cat, he will go down a lot faster

a safe way to do it is to put them in there separate crates and face them to each other for as long as it takes for them to get used to each other like every day then slowly start introduce them to each other but hold on to ur cat until he calms down cuz most likely hell be over excited them and get aggressive try and distract both of them with treats to calm them … but u should really ask a vet how to do it

i would put the pup in a crate and then let the cat walk around te crate and let him be him… then i would get one of those black cages that are open were the pup can see all around him and leave him in that so he can see the cat and let the cat do its thing…. then if the dog goes crazy and tries to attack you are most likly not gonna have a cat if you let him out but if the cat freaks let the dog out the cat will slap him a few times and then the dog will understand not to mess with the cat…

introduce them to each other outside where they both feel comfortable. the cat is familiar with outside of your house and the dog has been outside before im sure so just the fact that they are both on more comfortable turf should help the meeting go down easier. just make sure you maybe have the dog on a leash so that if things get out of control you can pull him back while the cat more than likely runs off.

    Good Luck!

    Hi,

Many dogs and cats can coexist peacefully, but you’ll keep everyone safe and make life much less stressful if you plan carefully when looking for a new pet, and introduce the newcomer slowly and carefully. Here are more tips:
