How to Train a Rottweiler – Unconditional Love

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

If you recently just added a young rottweiler puppy to your family or are considering this wonderful breed but are skeptical about the training process you will be delighted to know that the rottweiler breed is very intelligent. You will also find out that training your new dog will be very fun and exciting, the rottweiler (more than most breeds in my opinion) is desperate to do what ever it takes to please you. The breed is one of the most loving and compassionate dogs you can ever welcome to your family.

Like most beings on the planet, human or animal, you will find that the happiest of us all have received a plethora of unconditional love. It is very important when you train a rottweiler to love him or her like a new born baby. I personally have two rotties and they have turned out to be amazing pets. But…How do you train a massive dog and give it unconditional love at the same time?

A technique I have used could be coined the “finger to forehead method.” Animals are very smart, especially rottweilers, and when they have done something wrong, they know… its all about your body language. Even before you begin to scold them verbally, they know very well that they have broken a rule.

My solution is this: I sit or kneel down closer to their level, point to the ground right in front of me and make them come to me. If they are young and don’t understand that command very well, get up very calmly and bring them to the spot where you told them to go. Simply make them lay down and poke them in the head a few times with your finger while you say “Bad boy…Do not eat the couch”

It may sound funny but actually talk to them and say exactly what they did wrong and why they are being punished.

Overall this is a very simple process, may sound a bit odd, but training my rottweilers with this technique has worked well. Its very non-violent, non abusive, and much like a human child they know what they did wrong. The non-violence is very important because it re-assures the animal that…

1. You are the alpha.
2. Your not going to hurt them.
3. That you unconditionally love them.

Dogs in general have a short short-term memory so 10 minutes or so after the event always make sure to introduce some loving or playing with your rottweiler.
