Is It Possible to Have a Chihuahua and a Rottweiler?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

I have a 2 and a half year old chihuahua and my partner wants a rottweiler. Has anyone done similar or have any advice?

it really depends on the rotties personality. i wouldn’t recommend it though, he might unintentionally step on the chi and hurt it quite a bit without even realizing what he is doing.

Are you wanting to know so you can breed the two together? Because that would just be plain ignorant and the pups would be downright ugly!

But if you are talking about them living together, then yeah why wouldnt it be possible.

I’ve seen it in other ppl’s houses. It’s good that you have the chi first. He or she will be the boss. I’ve actually seen a chi or similar sized dog be the boss of a few dogs in the house. Just make sure you do this correctly and have them meet on neutral turf the first two times. IF there is any problem, go try another rottie.

While many Chihuahua information sites I have read about advise against a Chihuahua living with a larger dog, it is possible and there are positive outcomes. If the Rottweiler is a puppy and it was raised around dogs of all sizes, including Chihuahuas, it should be fine.

yeah it is fine..as long as the rottie is taken home as a puppy…ok?

example my home:GSD(geman shepherd dog)and rat terrier
    neiboes home> Rottie+mini dauchound

i got my big pooch as a puppy they are fine together

Save yourself the hassle… because if you don’t choose this rott wisely, you will be planning your chihuahua’s funeral… but if you really must have one,.. buy it as a puppy so they can at least grow up together so that they at least know one another… but the rott will eventually become like 30 times the size of your chi, which should worry you in certain ways …good luck to ya =s [p..s im not saying rotts are bad im just saying.>>.small dog<<< against >>>gigantic dog<<< I dunno

I would NOT recommend it. Even the most casual playful gesture from the Rottie could kill, maim or cause permanent brain damage to the Chihuahua. Chihuahua’s bones are very fragile and they have "soft spots" (open fontanels) on their heads that never close.

Since the Chihuahua was there first, it would attempt to rule the roost, which is altogether natural in dogs but could prove fatal with such a size and strength difference. Please don’t get a Rottweiler. They can be wonderful dogs but NOT with a Chihuahua.

yes, i think it would be ok. you should have them me in a neutral area then bring them home together that way they are not the boss of the neutral place, because they have never been there before.it might of been better to have gotten them at the puppy stag, but this should work out fine.
    good luck!!!

    why not?
as long as you introduce them so that the chihuahua doesn’t hate it
alot of times when you have a dog, then get another one, the older one hates it, but that can be overcome. you can even call a trainer for advice.

my chihuahua has several large dog friends.
they can move out of harms way quick, at least mine can. haha.
like someone i know has a house full of people and 2 small dogs and a large dog(not sure which breed) and she never got stepped on, and was in the kitchen(nobody turns and makes sure there is no dog in their way.
so getting stepped on by the new puppy most likely won’t happen. well never did with my experience(i have known many chihuahuas)
