Isn’t It Time That We Called for Certain Dog Breeds to Be Made Illegal?

Don't make the same mistakes I made with my Rottweiler!

My question is simple. After reading this news article:

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20090213/tuk-jaden-killed-by-grandma-s-pet-dogs-dba1618.html

About yet another pointless death of another innocent child – by (suprise, suprise) another bull terrier, is it not time that we called upon the government to make breeding this type of dog, and also rottweilers illegal. This would allow current pet owners to keep their current bull terriers or rottweilers, but mean that once the current ones die out, they cannot be replaced, and we can attempt to make these pointlessy vicious and dangerous and agressive breeds effectively extinct in this country.

They are so unpredictable, and so strong. Surely if a human was this dangerous, they would be incarserated – so why do we continue allowing these two particular types of dog, with such a bad track record to continue to be freely available for sale.

no way we should make bad dog trainers illegal

    Quite simply – NO!

Where do you stop? The other dog that killed that child was a jack russel – so do we ban them too? What about Labradors – one killed a child in the US last year.

I personally don’t like staffies – I have had a lot of problems with them attacking my mums German Shepherd and my Dalmatian. But that is just a few breeds and are maladjusted because of their owners.

Its all about the OWNER! That woman should not of fallen asleep – you never leave a child unattended in the presence of any dog – common sense. She should be charged for that!

I am totally for introducing a licensing scheme – and maybe even a graded scheme so if you have so much experience, you can own a high maintenance animal.

We don’t need any more laws. We need more education. Tragic for sure, but I don’t think someone should be incarcerated because they own a certain breed. All animals should be licensed.

it’s not the breed, it’s the individual dog and owners that make them that way.

Don’t blame it on the animals and the breeds; blame it on irresponsible owners who don’t train and supervise their pets. Certain breeds, like Rottweilers, are high-energy and territorial. Therefore, a responsible owner would train the dog accordingly.

Its not necessarily the breed..I mean, look…a jack russel? Those dogs are tiny! Its how the owners handle their pets….Haven’t you seen Ceasar Milan, the dog whisperer? He can get whatever results her wants from a dog by the energy that he puts out. What a sad sad story.

No.It is the fault of people not being caring for their children.Who,in their right mind would leave a child with a dog?

It’s very sad this child like many others being killed by these types of dogs. I have owned staffs & rots I’ve never had any problems. However, i think it’s the dog owners that need educating. What were the dogs doing in the house any way. A dog lives in a kennel, outside. Well mine did.( i don’t have any now ) I still say it’s how they are reared.
There’s an old saying " if you keep kicking a dog eventually it will bite you" think about it. You do have a point. We have had many interesting debates on the subject.

I think you’ll find the problem is most likely with the owner and not the dog itself.
