Im thinking about getting a rottweiler from a reputable breeder that I know and was wondering if rottweilers are family dogs and if they would be good around kids?
All I can say is that a good dog is the product of a good owner.
Get a dog from reputable breeder with good bloodlines, socialise him with children as soon as possible, treat him with love and discipline and I see no problems.
But get a dog from a back-yard breeder or a puppy mill, don't introduce him to kids and abuse him and you have living nightmare on your hands.
A dog is a product of its experiences and upbringing. Yes, Rottweilers, can be stubborn, assertive and even aggressive IN THE WRONG HANDS (so they're not a good choice for first-time dog owners) but if you establish yourself as firm and authoritative pack leader from day one, the likelihood of you having trouble is low.
I know someone with a 7 year old who has a Rottweiler and she has no trouble, but she treats her dog very well.
I also recommend you go and educate yourself on dog body language and behaviour so you can spot an unhappy/agreesive dog and therefore teach your kids to do the same.

um…they're known NOT to be. But it all depends how you raise the puppy. Im sure many people that have rottweilers would argue they are good family pets.

Rottweilers, if trained and socialized correctly, can make great family dogs. They are very loyal and protective, and will create a strong bond with your family.
Since you are getting it from a good breeder, you don't need to worry about it being raised from (as in, being trained to fight)- but the breed still needs a lot of training and a firm hand.
Make sure you do a lot of research on the breed before you get one!

No, Rottweiler often turn on their owners but if you are considering to get a rottweilers you might want to consider getting a puppy so you can train it at a early age.
If you have young children, you might want to consider a small dog like a chihuahua or a Shi Tu etc.

Rotties get a bad rap from owners that want the breed, but don't want to put the work into owning one. They are very loyal and protective. They will do best with a smaller family, maybe one or two kids. You'll find that the Rott, while loving of all family members, will bond with one person in particular, so it is very important to train from an early age so that this never becomes a problem. A Rott that is well trained and socialized will give it's own life to protect its family.

Wouldn't suggest having a dog as big as this breed around children,as this breed almost killed my Son a few years ago and he weighed around 200 lbs.Very aggressive breed.

I use to play with three when I was a toddler and they were great!
But it's vital to teach him/her that you and kids are above him/her.
If you are unsure that you could become dominant over a rottweiler get a more easier dog.

rottweilers are not bad for kids… people may think so because of their size, but a properly trained dog is great for kids!
we have a German Shepherd and he has never bit once my mother has a shit zu and she has bit my three year old three times she is very aggressive of food and toys i wouldn’t recommend a small dog to a family with small children just from experience my daughter can do anything to my Shepherd and he won’t even growl it all depends on how you raise them we are getting our first rotty next week and are very excited
