Sweet dog. I have two pits and a chow…wonderful dogs. I have always had chows, so I figured why not pits? Wish I had room for a rottie baby too. Maybe someday.

My mom has a chow, so sweet and loving. A dog is only bad if it is taught bad things. Beautiful Rott, so talented.

Well, I think you're great for taking him in. I think you can socialize him though. It takes a little time. When I adopted my amstaff, I made sure he knew his place in the "pack," and it worked fine. It's understandable for people to be worried about your Rott, b/c a lot of people don't socialize them either and the Rott ends up with territorial problems, failing to note a threat from a non threat so its natural for people to be surprised by a well socialized dog.

the chow mix can be …
the chow mix can be a tad dog agressive. he backs down when it comes to a real fight with the other dogs (thank goodness). the man that i got him from was going to take him to the animal shelter. they would have put him down. he never socialised the dog at all. he had the him as a guard dog. i don't think that is possible to socialise him now. if someone comes in my house and i indicate that it is okay, bubba greets them warmly. it can be a little scary for them sometimes, lol.

Except for the chihuahua, the others get a bad rep due to overbreeding (higher risk of getting a bad temperament dog), breeding for aggression, and bad owners, not to mention, how easy people buy these dogs and say, "oh, if I socialize the dog, then maybe he won't guard. Also lack of training, and the media tight scrutiny of these dogs.
